Gang of Four were always good, and weren't just "copied by a load of crap indie bands." They were huge influences on bands like Fugazi, Big Black, and other Post-Hardcore bands. And pretty much every elitist and music critic loved this band up until all these dance rock knockoffs showed up, so all of this GoF hate is just backlash. The Velvet Underground are one of the greatest bands of all time. Even if you don't like their music, you have to respect the impact they had on music. |

I don`t think it`s a GoF backlash.
I first heard Entertainment about 6 years ago & thought it was bland. And I hate Fugazi too

^Marquee Moon is a must have, and I liked Gang of Four better than the clonish bands that proceeded them, like Radio 4, The Rapture, etc. (two bands I didn't like in the past, but am more fond of now). Good thing we're talking about such great bands in a Hot Hot Heat thread.

I prefer Radio 4 to The Rapture.
Well until their last album came out anyway.

I prefer The Rapture to any other band of that style.
And maybe you don't feel the same way, but most critics were raving about Gang of Four right up until every band and their mother was forming a band that sounded just like them. Now its "GoF are overrated" and "they were never that great to begin with." |

I never said they were overrated I said I heard the album (before most of these bands came along) and I thought it was bland.

Ironically I like all the bands mentioned on this page (velvet, radio4, rapture, television) for different reasons, well except Hot Hot Heat. Oh right, back on topic though... |

Well I like all of them too , Apart from Fugazi obviously
I hate Hot Hot Heat for the simple reason they look & sound like they stepped out of 1979. I even saw one of them with a bad perm wearing a stripy black & white t shirt for that extra 'new wave band from 1979' look.
