Just my opinion I guess. For me, The Stone Roses is solid all the way through. I never find myself listening to all of Doolittle anymore, just select tracks.

If we're talking about filler I think there's much more of it on the roses album.

I can pretty much listen to Doolittle the whole way through. I find the roses album drags in the middle.
I would think stuff like Don't Stop, Bye Bye Badman, Elizabeth My Dear & Sugar Spun Sister are the epitome of filler tracks.

Those are some of my favorites to be honest. I consider Waterfall and Don't Stop to be two parts of a whole considering how one flows into the next, but Bye Bye Badman and Sugar Spun Sister are killer. The bridge in Bye Bye Badman is one of my favorite parts. You know, the "I've got bad intentions" part. That's awesome. Elizabeth is effectively filler though. I like the track just because I've always loved variations on that Scarborough Faire melody.

The low point of the album for me is She Bangs The Drums.

Elizabeth My Dear and Don't Stop are definitely filler, but Sugar Spun Sister is a fantastic track and as for Bye Bye Badman, one of my favourite Roses songs ever.

I don't get why some people think a few tracks are just filler tracks, I think they threw everything they had into this album, track by track it's a brilliant album. Then they put out a shower of shit on Second Coming.

I often wonder what would've happened if they didn't sign with that wanker manager and they weren't legally banned from making albums. Momentum is a very important thing.

I dunno, I couldn't see them sustaining that sound and aesthetic too long to be honest. The music was perfect for it's moment, and should be seen as such.

Oh great, now the word "filler" has entered into this already useless debate.

Can somebody define "filler" for me? Every time I see it used on MB it seems to mean "song I don't personally like".
There's no way that Stone Roses or Pixies used "filler" to pad either of these albums to support a couple hits. For sure, Frank Black made every last one of his songs carefully. Maybe the Stone Roses were hungry enough for money that they'd do anything to top the charts but I like to think that didn't happen until Second Coming..

Really find that?I always found Stone Roses held up much better to repeated listening.
