But I would venture to call Dirty Pretty Things better... and the libertines. ;) I can't stand the sound of Pixies voice. And Stone Roses just reminds me of early nineties dirty knees grunge rock like Smashing Pumpkins. |

The Stone Roses -> Smashing Pumpkins? Have you ever actually listened to The Stone Roses? Saying that, sounding like The Smashing Pumpkins wouldn't be a bad thing at all. |

Yes, I have. And I do not enjoy them. People run around claiming this band or that 'changed music' or had some huge 'influence'... people say that about EVERY band that makes it fairly big, though. To me, if I like it, it ain't cos it supposedly was revolutionary to whomever's world of music. |

Stone Roses...Played the tape cassette (yes tape cassette) till it would hardly play anymore. Really enjoyed them!
|
I originally voted Roses, if I had the chance to vote again, I'd vote Doolittle I think.. Mainly because I'm loving the album at the moment. But the Roses S/T is an absolute classic.

Go America!

It's not just team America! The Stone Roses are/were from my home town!! Turning my back on the Mancs.. Can't do it. But Doolittle is brilliant. Doolittle vs Surfa Rosa would've been more interesting.. Both regarded as classics. I think Doolittle blows Surfer Rosa out the water. :D |
I don't know about blowing it out of the water, but I prefer Doolittle as well...
|
Maybe a slight exaggeration but yeah, Doolittle is brilliant.
|
Surfer Rosa>Doolittle. The sheer unadulterated weirdness of it is bliss.

The Pixies practically lived in Europe between 1988-1990 |

Hmm, if I'd heard each album only once, I'd definitely vote for Doolittle. But I feel that the Stone Roses' S/T holds up much better to repeated listening, even if it is a little weak in the middle. So my vote goes to the Mancs.
|
Stone Roses hands down for me, Nothing to do with them being British and I do really like the Pixies but in terms of my music taste the Stone Roses get their own page in the book, really a personal favourite of mine.
|

Hard choice as both are classic albums, but Dolittle wins as the Stone Roses album has too much filler.
|
I haven't heard much from Pixies, so the choice is obvious. To be honest, The Stone Roses is seriously up there as one of my favourite albums of all time, so I doubt there would be any competition anyway.

like what? imo if we leave out discussion of Don't stop which isn't really a proper song all the songs are of the v.highest quality. |

i love both
but voted Doolittle just cos there's more variety The Stone Roses is pretty one-note |
The Stone Roses has some awesome songs but it has some duds aswell that I always skip whilst I always listen to Doolittle all the way through so that.

'doolittle' easily!
It is my third favorite-ist album of all time period! Like Stone Roses were never even that popular here in the States and frankly I barely even know who they are to be totally honest. They sound to me like some Soup Dragons rip-off more then some super duper original band. |
^^The Soup Dragons were much better than the Stone Roses
|
The Stone Roses for me.
|
How have I not seen this thread?
Soup Dragons much better than The Stone Roses? I may have to disown you, my estranged forum adoptee. I would rather listen to The Stone Roses than Doolittle but I would rather have The Pixies discography with me on a 12 hour journey. Although I do think The Second Coming is severely under rated, they would never be able to better the debut. The quality of songs are just top class, not to mention the monumental effect it had on music (good and bad). Even the weaker middle part ha some great tunes, like Bye Bye Badman. |
^^it's just an opinion
|
The pixies by a long shot
