Bear in Heaven

Copied from Wikipedia, cause I'm lazy:

"Bear in Heaven is a Brooklyn-based rock band formed by Jon Philpot. The sound of the band incorporates influences from psychedelic music, electronic music, and krautrock."

Think like Yeasayer + My Bloody Valentine, with with all of the drums stolen from Can.

I just recently listened to "Beast Rest Forth Mouth" and it was definitely my biggest whiff of 2009. The album easily makes it into my top 5 for last year.

I'm about to say something that I have not been able to say about anything posted here on the Indie&Alternative forum for a long time:

This sounds really good! I'm going to check out the album asap.

That's decent. Prefer the instrumentation to the vocals if I'm honest. Bit of a de rigeur Cocteau Twins feel, personally I think there's a bit too much of this dream pop/fuzzy guitar stuff around of late and this isn't quite good enough to push it right to the top of the pile. But yeah, it's decent.

Yea - I generally don't like the new-school fuzzy dream pop bands but I was pleasantly surprised by this song. Good enough to make me want to hear the album anyway. Usually this type of band wouldn't even get that far with me. Also, I'm kind of automatically turned off when I hear about bands operating in Brooklyn in the mid-00s so I had really low expectations before I listened.

EDIT: I tried and it was a horrible experience. After 3 songs I swore to myself that I would listen the whole thing but I still didn't. After about the middle of song #5 I couldn't stand it anymore and put on Pornography (The Cure) instead. This band is or has become another pale and limp imitation of an amalgamation of good music from the past several decades. I don't know how these people afford to live in Brooklyn. Awful.

It sounds exactly like that as well. and that's what's wrong with it.
It totally misses the point of what made those bands good in the first place and just copies them.

I think I could go either way with these guys. If this track is basically what they sound like song after song then I probably would get bored by them, but if this is just one facet of a more inventive band I could see myself getting into them.
