Okkervil River
They're kind of a folk rock/indie-folk band I guess. I don't know who to compare them too since the only indie I really like is Patrick Wolf, Cursive and Bright Eyes, but its kind of dark mellow indie-folk/country stuff.
Anyway, I have Don't Fall in Love With Everyone You See My favorite song is probably Westfall or Okkervil River Song. Anyone else like them? |
hey, they are pretty good. i have never even heard of them before now. they are good.

Okkervil River
great bluesy folk band from america. they have a very talented lead singer in will sheff. check out their site at okkervil river
|
Black Sheep Boy is one of my favorite albums ever, Sheff is a genius songwriter. I wouldn't really call them bluesy folk though. For Real is fantastic.
|
just downloaded black sheep boy, and i agree, for real is a fantastic song....exellent band....
|
yes, I'm also obsessed with the song for real, but I haven't found any other songs that I'm crazy about. there are a few more that I like, but nothing really spectacular that jumps out and grabs me by my metaphorical balls.

Okkervil River
Anyone into Okkervil River? I think along with Arcade Fire's "Funeral" they released the best album of last year ("Black Sheep Boy"). They are kinda alt-country sounding with some heavy underpinnings, especially on the tracks "For Real" and "Black." I don't think that they sound like anyone else out there and the pure emotion on this album is unbelievable. If you like Okkervil River check out their side project "Shearwater" and their first two albums "Don't fall in love with everyone you know" and "Down the River of Golden Dreams"
Cheers! :hphones: |
I don't really like them, from what I have heard. Black sheep boy? Isn't that like a five second song?
|
dude, just download for real....it's amazing...

Black Sheep Boy is an amazing album. It's my new favorite.

I've gotta agree with those who have been touting "For Real". I like how it starts out as a ragged 90s alt-rock type song, then morphs into something much more sleek and well crafted. Also, a cool little effect, in the intro, one when one guitar is playing a G chord another guitar creates feedback on an F note which makes it sound like a G7 chord is being played. It's a minor thing overall, but it's a cool little flourish that gives the chord a layered sound. As of now, though I've heard a few of their other songs, I haven't really paid close attention. i'll probably be giving them a second look. BTW...Is it just me, or do they sound a bit like Weezer?

Definetly an amazing band though. |
Though I know that it never can be,
I’d be pleased to post your decrees, to fall at your knees, to name all your streets and to sit down and weep when you’re carried back through them and set down to sleep, and to lie by your side for sublime centuries until we crumble to dust when we’re crushed by a single sunbeam A King and A Queen is my new favorite song. |
They have something new out?

This is one of the first threads I posted in on MB. Ah Nostalgia...

Ok, that may have been a tad too much. |
These forums could use a shout box.
Because there is no shout box....there was no appropriate place for me to say that. |
Yeah I pleaded with Greg about one a while back, but as usual...oh well, I suppose we could just spam the boards instead.
|
who's Greg?
|
You can just make blog about it!!!1
