I actually enjoyed "Good News..." as it was my introduction to the band. Obviously, once I started exploring more I ended up liking their early stuff better but it's a solid album to me. I'm with you guys about their last one, though.

New song was absolutely nothing special. Considering it's the lead single, this doesn't give me much hope. I mean, I don't care what your opinion of "Good News..." was, 'Float On' was a damn catchy lead single. With 'Lampshades On Fire', all I could think was "Oh, a new Modest Mouse song."

I will say that the album cover reminds me of old modest mouse. Suburban sprawl... parking lots and strip malls.

I agree with all of this. The lead single was unremarkable for me. I still hold naive hope for the album, though ;_;
