This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About>>>all. Give it a listen and soon, you won't regret it.

I've heard Good News, Moon & Antarctica, Lonesome Crowded West.

Not that keen on Lonesome Crowded West yet, sure it'll grow on me though.

This Is A Long Drive is definitely the next on my list

I second This Is A Long Drive.

CunningStunt, Lonesome Crowded West will almost definitely grow on you. What you've listened to so far is good, though. Save We Were Dead for last if you're going to listen to it.

TheCunningStunt, I don't remember if you like The Pixies or Built to Spill. But when I first heard The Lonesome Crowded west, I was like, "holly shit! The Pixies had sex with Built to Spill and this is their offspring!"

Needless to say, that makes it awesome.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Maybe it was more in The Moon & Antarctica, but when I first started listening to Modest Mouse I definitely heard a strong Built to Spill influence. I've had friends that were fans of Built to Spill (and at the time unfamiliar with Modest Mouse) ask me if I was playing Built to Spill. I was playing The Lonesome Crowded West in the car. I was shocked they would even ask, being supposedly familiar with BtS' music.

I firmly believe that Built to Spill were one of Modest Mouse's biggest influences, along with Pixies.

That's true, but MM's debut album didn't come out till 96, two years after BtS's second. Regardless, it's true that they are moreso contemporaries than anything.

Doug Martsch was tremendously influenced by J Mascis so maybe that is what you are hearing in both bands?

It's possible, not sure. Though I have noticed in the latest Dinosaur Jr. album that some of the guitar playing reminds me of Built to Spill. And I say that because I'm relatively inexperienced with Dinosaur Jr., having only heard 2 of their albums, but I'm very familiar with all of Built to Spill's material.
