I actually like We Were Dead more than Good News. I can see disliking the poppy style but, since they went that way, I think that Johnny Marr's guitar improves the songs' quality (subtly but noticeably). For the record, my favorite is The Moon & Antarctica. The older stuff is, of course, classic but it sounds a little too much like Pavement meets Pixies to me.

2 things:
-We already have Pavement.
-We already have the Pixies.

Good bands to be influenced by, for sure. But it took a little while for MM to develop their own identity.

LCW is my favorite album and MM is my second favorite band. LCW was a strange starting choice for me, but in the end it grew on me a ton. At first the sound was too weird for my liking.

just because a band has similar aspects to previous ones doesn't mean that it's music should not be appreciated. there have been so many bands that have had a positive impact on future ones. not everything needs to be completely unique. and really I don't really see the connection to be honest.

Sure. I really like every one of Modest Mouse's albums. I have always liked the band -- after they became unique I liked them even more.

The biggest problem with the poppy albums is that they are so inconsistant, they jump from great songs to mediocre ones.

you hit the point for me. they all have good songs, but there is definitely filler.

I'm a fan and like songs from Lonesome Crowded West and Sad Sappy Sucker and such, but my favorite is Good News. Is there something wrong with me or what?
