Not a huge fan of the latest. Great stuff though.

Am I the only one that realises that these are just two variations of the same goddamn song?

Who even listens to that album?

Actually no... Borrowing from other artists is a long held musical tradition... Classical composers have been known to "quote" other pieces of music into their own, Jazz musicians improvise over popular melodies without giving credit to the original musicians, and blues guitarists steal licks from each other all the time... Add on to that the fact that most punk bands ripped off garage bands and most Indie bands nowadays rip off post-punk bands. Your idea of attacking one band you don't like because they're known to take melodies they have heard and improvise around it is just a pure example of selectivism. Am I being selectivist now? You bet, because I think ripping off yourself (and on the same damn album) and in such a blatently obvious way is just the epitomy of lame. I also hate Modest Mouse.

I'm usually above the whole "coming to a band thread just to talk trash about them" thing, but since you're not, then you probably wont mind.

I don't see how you think its fine to steal a melody from another artist but taking one from YOUR OWN song is unacceptable. Quit being a biased pretentious fucktard.

I can't actually remember the last time you started a thread about a band.

Scrub that I just looked .... MBV , Yes & King Crimson. In 2 years & 4000 odd posts.

Do you even realise that the range of notes and chord progressions is not so great? After 50 or so years, theres not really any ground left to cover, so it only makes sense to take something old and reinvent it... Because when you try to make a completely original song with no source of inspiration, it usually sucks... Most modern songs I hear now remind me of some older song, thats just the way it is.

Also, Dashboard is a blatent ripoff of a song me and my friends once wrote while drunk.

Yeah but im talking about Led Zeppelin not just some band who happened to use an old riff without knowing it.

They still made everything their own, and they did write their own material that wasn't completely derivative.

"Blame it on the Tetons" by Modest Mouse is a blatant rip-off of the melody of "Unwind" by Sonic Youth. Not that I care, although I don't like BiotT.

I like Modest Mouse. The Moon and Antarctica is my favourite album by them

Modest Mouse is becoming one of my favorite bands again, I think I like Lonesome Crowded West better than the Moon & Antarctica, I mean it has Jesus Christ Was an Only Child, Long Distance Drunk, Heart Cooks Brain, Shit Luck, Trailer Trash, Polar Opposites etc. I think Dramamine is my favorite song, followed by (that aren't on lonesome crowded west because I already mentioned those) Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset, Baby Blue Sedan, Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative), and 3rd Planet.

I have'nt heard a lot about them, until I visited this website. I got hold of WE WERE DEAD and I have been playing it a lot. I really like it.
