Default Eric's Trip

No thread on these guys *scandal alert*

Anyone worth their grain will already know of them, but for those that dont they're an Indie Rock band formed in 1990. Yes, they took their name from the SY song. Their sound has been described as 'Dreamy Punk' and 'sappy melodic pop music on top of thick distortion', this probably puts it more succinctly than i could muster.

Anyway, the album Forever Again is a must have, here's a taster:

being that i live where Eric's Trip is from i've heard of them just a little.

the drummer (Mark) worked at a local record shop for years, not sure if he's still there. super cool and HILARIOUS. he was far more concerned with the state of our local scene than being a star as far as i could tell. i'll always remember the time a friend of mine wanted to order a cd which turned into a rant about how much he loves big tits hahahhaa.

Julie Doiron went on to have a bit of a solo thing going on. think she fronted a group called The Wooden Stars or something along those lines. if i remember right she chose to base herself out of Montreal.

as far as i know the main guy behind the band (Rick White) is still based in Toronto and doing his thing from there. every 2-3 years they'll play a reunion show in town, have to assume it's just coincidence that all 3 members happen to be around at the same time.

Eric's Trip are absolutely amazing. One of the best and most under appreciated bands of all time as far as I'm concerned. Rick's other band Elevator/Elevator Through/Elevator to Hell are also great.

She's done an album with the Wooden Stars but isn't a regular member.

I'd certainly say they're one of if not the most underrated band from the 90's Indie Rock movement. Always There in particular is on par with any recording Pavement, Built To Spill, Sebadoh or Modest Mouse have made. That guitar sound is killer

Very true indeed. Forever Again is their best work in my opinion. I'm also quite fond of the Peter EP but they haven't released anything I dislike.

you can thank CANCON for that and the fact that the majority of Canada thinks the country ends on the eastern border of Quebec. besides, Sloan hit bigger around the same time and you couldn't have two popular bands from the east coast now.... that would have unbalanced the country.

Well damn. I haven't heard of them. Where should I start? I'm guessing Forever Again? And any other suggestions? It looks like they had quite a few releases.

I think you could start anywhere really. Their sound isn't too different between album and each has a good variety of their songs. I'd still recommend Forever Again but to me none of them are better than an other by much.

there's a live album called 'the show' or something along those lines that's also very highly regarded around here. seems to be the local favourite.
