Dinosaur Jr. - Farm

I knew immediately from the album art I would mostly like enjoy the album. Any time there's an ent on anything chances of me liking it increase rapidly. This album was (like many people) my first really encounter with Dinosaur Jr. Now I was always aware of who the band was but was never really bothered with looking them up until I very reliable source sent me the album in an e-mail. The album was just a really good solid stream of indie rock songs that happened to include well done and well timed solos. No song felt artificially lengthened and I really felt like I got my listenings worth, even if it was free.

The Low Frequency in Stereo - Futuro

I was sent this album from the same person who sent me Farm and it just further solidified my belief that everything he sends me is good. This album had a very Joy Division feel to it, however it was slightly harder. The changing between male and female vocals ensured that boredom never became an issue and even the longer songs felt right. I've been trying to find more by this band but so far have yet to find anything.

The Protomen - Act II: The Father of Death

Follow up to their 2005 debut The Protomen it continues the adventures through Robot City, yes the same Robot City from Capcoms Mega Man series. The band decided to really go all out on it giving it a very Meat Loaf feel to it. One of the better rock operas I've heard in a good long time it was one of those surprise albums I wasn't even aware was coming out. Also the album artwork was stellar!

Bike For Three - More Heart Than Brains

Sure the album felt more like a hip hop album, but it contained enough electronic and slight guitar parts to be viewed as "indie", at least in my eyes. This album features the pairing of Canadian hip hop artist Buck 65 Belgian producer Joëlle Phuong Minh Lê, who although never meeting face-to-face managed to make an incredibly well done album. Catchy, slightly poppy, and still containing Rich Terfry's cryptic and surreal writing, it is an album that should not be overlooked.

The Antlers - Hospice

I was pretty surprised by this album and this band. I had never heard of them before I was sent the album and told that it contained some incredibly dark folk lyrics. Normally folk tends to bore me, however I like dark things so I decided to at least give it a try. While the music really didn't do a lot to thrill me, the dark song lyrics eventually won me over. I'm not sure if I'll go and look up the rest of their discography or not, but it was a pleasant surprise this year for something I'd normally never give the light of day.

I'd highly recommend it, it's not quite as overblown as their follow up was, but it really did show signs of what was budding. I have it uploaded if you want.

I'm finding it hard to get into that album. It feels like the sort of album that will take repeated listens to get into but i'm kinda loosing my patience with it. Maybe it's best listened to in a certain mood or late at night.

Honestly the only reason why I put that album on my list was because I couldn't think of anything else to without contradicting some previous statement I've made over the year. I understand how you feel though about the annoyance of repeated listens, I'm starting to feel that way with Humbug. For every Arctic Monkey album I've had to listen to it a total of three times before I really began to enjoy it, this includes their debut. I knew this going into Humbug but I still can't bring myself to like it. It's got some decent songs but it's nothing great. I liked the maturity that I heard in Favourite Worst Nightmare, however I think Alex needed to turn down the reverb on his voice a tad bit. Anyways I forgot where I was going with this post, but I understand how you feel.
