the single is drunk girls? if they praised that, its def getting a 9+. that is among the worst songs LCD have ever released.

adidasss 04-16-2010 08:17 PM

They chose All I want as a best new track, so I'm assuming it's a single as they tend to review official releases.

keith! 07-06-2010 04:48 PM

So I was shopping with my friends today when I finally picked up a physical copy of This Is Happening. I absolutely love it still, my favourite of 2010 thus far for sure.

Are people here still kind of down on it? I love most of the songs and I at least like the ones I don't. Fantastic album.

A friend of mine is really into LCD and he bought a copy when we were at the store the other day. He ranks it as his favorite of the year but I don't think I'd put it that high. Top five for sure though. I like it a lot.

adidasss 07-07-2010 12:19 AM

I still can't get over how similar some of the songs are to some previous work of his so I haven't been playing it much. I was hoping hearing them live would change my mind but it didn't. :\

IndiElectronica 07-07-2010 09:49 AM

yeah... i'm a HUGE fan of the group but this album underwhelms me. first song is a corker, drunk girls is terrible, rest of the album is fine. only fine. i doubt i'll get a phsical copy (unless vinyl cost comes down qute a bit from £19...)

keith! 07-07-2010 01:13 PM

I honestly don't get the Drunk Girls hate. I think it's a good song, the ending/climax part is actually great.

IndiElectronica 07-08-2010 07:58 AM

it's just to...straight forward... no intelligence or anything at ALL new or interesting. 4 major chords and bland lyrics... need i go on??? :)

Zer0 07-08-2010 04:11 PM

It's not the best album of the year but it's still pretty good. 'Drunk Girls' is definitely the weakest track on the album, there's nothing really interesting about it at all. It seems like one of those no brainer songs that only sounds good when drunk with your friends. Other than that the rest of the album is great, 'Dance Yrself Clean' and 'I Can Change' being the album highlights. Not as good as Sound Of Silver but a welcome addition none the less.

keith! 07-08-2010 04:59 PM

Sound of Silver < This Is Happening
All My Friends > This Is Happening

I'd say Somebodys Calling Me is a weaker song then Drunk Girls. And no intelligence? Sure people in the background are constantly chanting DRUNK GIRLS or DRUNK BOYS, but lots of Murphys lyrics in that song are rather witty.

Oh I believe I'm waking up, but still
Be honest with me,
honestly,
unless it hurts my feelings

Shoe 07-09-2010 04:50 AM

Saw them live at Roskilde music festival in Denmark the other day. Don't know their music, didn't see their whole performance. But they sounded like a good band. Should I pick up an album?

debaserr 07-10-2010 12:13 AM

yes! get sound of silver.

Shoe 07-10-2010 06:15 AM

Thank you sir

debaserr 07-11-2010 05:57 PM

been digging on this lately. for some reason i hadn't liked it much before a few months ago.

keith! 07-11-2010 08:44 PM

Losing My Edge is my second favourite LCD song.

....although, sometimes i feel like it's making fun of me

lol. the recent album does that quite a bit too...

tormusic 07-27-2010 07:29 AM

LCD Soundsystem

I know these guys have been around the New York scene for quite some time, but I just started listening to them and they are AMAZING!

I am hooked and was wondering if anyone knew of any other bands within the same genre that I could start adding to my music collection.

downwardspiral 07-27-2010 09:36 AM

hot chip? hot chip are definitely a band i'd liken to lcd soundsystem, although hot chip are infinitely better than lcdss.

saw lcdss a couple of times before, and i really really don't like them at all. i like daft punk is playing at my house and get innocuous though.

debaserr 07-27-2010 12:09 PM

^ really? what would be a good starter album?

downwardspiral 07-27-2010 12:22 PM

made in the dark is a great album. as is the warning.

clutnuckle 07-27-2010 12:45 PM

The new album has definitely grown on me. Aside from "Drunk Girls", it's consistently great.

debaserr 07-27-2010 01:12 PM

i haven't heard it in a while. should get on that. i doubt my favorite song will change though(home).

Raust 07-30-2010 11:43 PM

LCD Soundsystem is pretty amazing his debut is one of my favorite albums of all time. This is happening is good to, is it true that it's his last?

never heard that? where did you?

downwardspiral 07-31-2010 06:33 AM

Yeah he said it was his last.

debaserr 07-31-2010 10:51 AM

he said it was probably LCD's last. probably problems with the other memebers or something. i doubt he is going to stop making music.

Yeah i agree. I bet he will continue to make music, but i read LCD was done after their tour ends on pitchfork.

thats sucks, I missed them at sasquatch and was hoping i'd get another chance to see them

btw someone great is their best track imo

Pomegrant 08-10-2010 11:59 AM

I was under the impression that James Murphy is LCD Soundsystem like how Trent Reznor is Nine Inch Nails.

he's more the ring-leader... there are other notable musicians in the band...

sidewinder 08-11-2010 10:43 AM

I listened to the latest album yesterday for the first time. Some pretty good stuff on there. But in general I feel many of the songs are overlong. I think I felt that way with the last release too (on which I only really liked two songs).

debaserr 08-11-2010 11:30 AM

i didn't think many tracks from sound of silver were too long. but most the tracks off the new one are too long.

RVCA 08-11-2010 01:39 PM

If they're too long, you're too old!

(or something)

If they're too long, it's too repetitive! :p:

you are right, i'm 22 and they are too long.

Demasco 09-11-2010 02:10 PM

People will argue that music like LCD requires a different type of listening, and that the long song lengths allow each gradual change to feel more impactful. Personally though, I do agree that some of their songs could be condensed a little

Surell 09-07-2011 06:44 PM

Picking up where this last left off, i think the length of the songs, at least on This is Happening, are just right, as the songs flesh themselves out properly and it creates a full, solid album without a load of filler; somehow they never feel drawn out. A lot of it is the gradualness of the transformations, but, i dunno, even when there isn't a whole lot of transformation i guess it's the sound itself that keeps me enticed.

Speaking of which, This is Happening is one of my favorite albums now. I have to give Sound of Silver more a of a listen, but i do love All My Friends and the title track, and Get Innocuous!, a song i knew without knowing i knew it, is a hot track itself.

Zer0 09-08-2011 06:18 AM

I like This Is Happening just as much as Sound Of Silver. Both albums are certainly not perfect however, while there are some brilliant tunes on both but there are some that I think go on a little bit too long. But songs like 'Get Innocuous!', 'All My Friends' and 'I Can Change' etc. are excellent and ensure that I will be listening to LCD Soundsystem for years to come.

I was never really that fond of their debut. Apart from the odd good song there's a lot of filler and overlong songs on that album. Would have been so much better if the album was trimmed.

The Final Track 09-08-2011 10:52 AM

What about Losing My Edge?

This is Happening ha become something I've been going back to a lot lately. Especially Pow Pow, Home and U Wanted a Hit.

debaserr 09-08-2011 12:37 PM

I think their S/T is miles better than This Is Happening, it has a lot of great songs. I'm not really a fan of their more mild stuff, I prefer their hook-filled pop songs.
