I'm surprised I hadn't listened to this band until they released the Lollapalooza lineup. They're from Cincinnati and from what I'm gathering are essentially the Alkaline Trio of early 90s alternative rock. Really digging the stuff on Gentlemen and their first album...

I think their best work is 1965.
An album that's really hard to pigeon-hole, taking influences from jazz, r'n'b and soul amongst others.
In particular the songs 'John The Baptist' 'City Soleil' and '66'

One of the most overrated bands of the 1990s, they only had one good album anyway and that was Gentlemen, Greg Dulli certainly wasn't a lead vocalist.

The only thing I agree with you on is that Gentlemen is their best album. But Congregation and 1965 are both fucking great too.
