La Roux

Synth pop duo from Scotland picked as one of the hottest new bands in 2009 by some British magazine whose name I can't remember. Their selftitled album just leaked a few days ago...I don't care for it much, but I just can't get enough of Bulletproof:

Stone Birds 06-27-2009 02:38 PM

EPIC FAIL.....
just kidding, not bad.

Mirrorball95 06-27-2009 02:54 PM

They're actually alright, not too bothered about getting the album though. I liked the song 'In For The Kill' which is the only one I have.

Zer0 06-27-2009 03:10 PM

In For The Kill is over-played on the radio and just sounds awful. Bulletproof doesn't sound as bad though, but i certainly won't be picking up their album anytime soon.

GravitySlips 06-28-2009 10:40 AM

quite like them, prefer Skream's remix of IFTK though.

Tuneage!

Magnificent hair as well.

Skeletons 07-01-2009 09:30 AM

I haven't got the album and I've only heard 3 songs off of it and they're not bad "Bulletproof" is quite different from the other two yet still as catchy so it get's my seal of approval.

Oh P.S. I went to see them live and they were quite good they were supporting Lily Allen.

La Roux and Ladyhawke

Have you guys heard La Roux tunes? She's a newish girl on the scene bringing what I'd call some 80's tetris style electronic music that is in my opinion actually pretty decent. I'm really enjoying the music that's coming out at the moment like her and Lady Hawke. Let me know your thoughts. Here is some vid's to check out:

Lady Hawke:

lovesicklover 09-22-2009 12:47 PM

i love her!!! omg!

i thought i was the only one. i wish more ppl in the usa knew abt her.

shes free single of the week on itunes tho! get it!

Mojo 09-22-2009 02:45 PM

I've only heard In For The Kill but I can't stand it. Her voice just makes my skin crawl, it's dreadful.

FETCHER. 09-22-2009 02:47 PM

high pitched anyone?

Juncal 10-04-2009 02:50 AM

the remix by redial is the best, get on it!!

Juncal 10-04-2009 02:58 AM

sorry i mean the remix of bulletproof by redial

Music <3 10-04-2009 08:15 AM

Shes actually quite decent, she trys new things i like it. Bulletproof is a song i've heard too much, so it now annoys me.

FETCHER. 10-09-2009 06:56 PM

she may try new things, good on her. but for me they just dont work.
her stuff really doesnt appeal to me, her voice ahhhhh, goes right through me.

OceanAndSilence 10-09-2009 07:41 PM

i was meant to get an album of theirs for free in my mail... still hasn't arrived yet. i'll listen when it arrives.

Dieselboy 11-18-2009 11:18 PM

Really liking these guys lately. Been listening to their cd so much these past couple months, so had to dig to find their thread and bump it. ><

Almost every song on this disc really stands on its own imo, with only 2 or maybe 3 fillers. Her voice was a minor annoyance at 1st I have to admit, but I got over that quick, and now I feel like it adds alot to their songs. I can definitely understand though why people would be put off by it.

I'm not the kinda person that makes top 10 lists for a year or whatever. If I was though, then this would probably get serious consideration from me to go on my '09 list, based on how many times I've listened to the album.

Sorta embarrassing maybe, as I'm not usually a pop fan...but yeah...good stuff. 0_0

La Roux

Is anyone else a fan of hers (theirs, technically)? I love their album, and I find myself replaying their debut album at least three times a week with NO skipped tracks.

Scissorman 01-16-2010 07:27 PM

she is a Lady GaGa wannabe

Dieselboy 01-16-2010 07:54 PM

There's already a thread for them I'm pretty sure (in the Indie section), but yeah, I picked it as my favorite album for 2009...for whatever that's worth. ><

@_(-_-@)

Scissorman 01-16-2010 07:58 PM

but they sound identical to Lady GaGa xD

IWP 01-17-2010 06:34 PM

Nah, not at all.

FETCHER. 01-17-2010 07:29 PM

I don't think she strives to be like Lady GaGa at all. Sorry.

Scissorman 01-18-2010 07:20 AM

it's europop, just like Lady GaGa. The only difference is that Lady GaGa makes europop without being European . But, then again, that's just my opinion. I've heard Lady GaGa, and I've heard La Roux since I have a lot of friends who like them, and it all sounds the same to me (except for Lady GaGa having more commercial lyrics)

Shoe 01-18-2010 06:10 PM

La Roux isn't bad. My friend just showd me her. I don't think it's something I would typically listen to. But in the moment it was very nice.

lovesicklover 01-22-2010 11:47 AM

im excited for her tour

FETCHER. 01-22-2010 06:19 PM

Maybe since she's(they) Scottish, It'll be in the line up for T in the Park :D I hopeee!

Farfisa 01-23-2010 12:45 PM

I've already grown tired of this type of pop, well atleast it gives me something else to hate for another decade.

shanz23 01-31-2010 08:04 AM

loves it. :D la roux has its own thing going on

TumorAttitude 01-31-2010 08:10 AM

Never mind, I really have no idea what I'm talking about...

cmoncmon 02-02-2010 04:14 PM

la roux is great

hoorayforpeepee 02-04-2010 04:08 AM

They suck. The vocal annoys me, and they bring nothing new to the table. Just yet another overhyped NME band...

gogojessicat 03-24-2010 01:38 PM

Okay I have to agree with those who said La Roux is a little Lady Gaga wannabe. But its good stuff.. It's not really my style, but I like a few songs. But overall its seems over the top, over done.
I like the similarity to Ladyhawke though. But I have to say I like Ladyhawke better.

Yeah right, La Roux owns Lady Gaga dude.

youngbridge 03-30-2010 11:48 AM

I wouldn't call La Roux a Lady Gaga wannabe. Just an 80s pop wannabe. Which is fine because that's obviously what they're going for. But yeah, I think they're alright. Catchy songs. Plenty of good remixes out there of their songs. The lead singer annoys me though. She comes across as an angsty little brat in interviews. Oh well.

kurapika 04-05-2010 04:15 AM

Florence and The Machine > La Roux

I hate this kind of post. Care to explain WHY florence and the machine are better?

DearJenny 05-10-2010 12:44 PM

I saw the video for "Bulletproof" on MTV a few weeks ago so I decided to listen to the whole CD. Not terrible, but not technically good. Catchy and fun to sing along to. I really like "Cover My Eyes" and "Tigerlily".

FETCHER. 05-16-2010 06:30 PM

I hate bulletproof and in for the kill, but i like the remaining songs on the album, as you said, not too shabby :)
