i'm actually downloading their album Eyes Open right now, haha

simplephysics 06-08-2009 03:30 PM

Stone Birds, as much time as you spend trying to alert everyone of spam, do you not realize your OP in this thread isn't much different?

Snow Patrol have a pretty generic sound, but they aren't terrible.

Stone Birds 06-08-2009 03:52 PM

i'm not telling people to go i'm asking if i should go (the image may have been a bit too much)
sorry if it bothered you, i think i'll change the direction of this thread so its more about Snow Patrol

The only album i have is Final Straw which i got when they released it in 2004. There's a few good songs on it but the rest just sound bland and do nothing for me, i've never bothered with their other albums. I saw them live 2 years ago and they put on a good show though.

gotjuice 06-08-2009 10:52 PM

I thought Hundred Million Suns was a step back from Eyes Open and Final Straw, but in fairness to them those are two tough albums to stack up against. Dreadnaught was right when he said Snow Patrol's sound is pretty generic, but I have yet to tire of either Final Straw or Eyes Open. I'd also encourage anyone who hasn't to check out their earlier albums (Songs for Polar Bears/When It's All Over...). They're a lot more raw and have what I guess you could call an "indie" sound, but they're definitely good if you're in the right mood. Very different from their recent polished sound.

I was impressed by everything I've ever heard of them. I would defiantely go if i were you.

sweet_nothing 06-10-2009 04:16 AM

I'm seeing them tonight as they are opening for Coldplay, I guess I should download one of their albums.

I have Eyes Open from Antonio, and I really like it. There not doing anything that's never been done before, but generic=/=bad.

I'm good. My mom has that CD, I'm not sure if thats a good or bad thing though.

Stone Birds 06-10-2009 06:46 AM

i think snow patrol for most people has that kind of sound you can listen to every once and a while but too often can make it sound kind of annoying, which is basically how all generic bands are.
I truthfully like them though, well now (hey antonio can you pm me that link?)

Mirrorball95 06-10-2009 09:51 AM

Me and my mates used to be really big on the 'Final Straw' album when it first came out and it still stands out as a good album, just Ive heard much better since then.
I also found out a few years back that Snow Patrol had been putting albums out since like the late 90s and had 2 or 3 before 'Final Straw' which I had originally thought, at the time, that it was infact their debut.

As for the 'Eyes Open' I thought the 'You Are All That I Have' song was alright but the album in general was poor. I think I sold it a while ago.

crash_override 06-11-2009 06:22 PM

Giving eyes open a solid listen today, I have to say it's really good. I really like the songwriting on here. They are going with what works but not getting too redundant. A friend of mine introduced me to them a few years back but they didn't really stick at first. This is the first album of theirs that I've actually had (thanks antonio) and I have to say it will get more than one listen. 7/10.

sweet_nothing 06-11-2009 09:57 PM

Saw them last night, they put on a fairly good show and had a good stage presence but still the music had me yawning.

That's funny coming from a Radiohead fan.

Mr E 06-12-2009 03:10 AM

Mirrorball is right they're very experienced as far as musicianship is concerned they've been making albums since they were like 16 or 17 years old ,its good to see a band as a unit playing some decent tunes even if you dont like them you gotta say they are very talented.

Stone Birds 06-12-2009 12:25 PM

i just got Eyes Open from antonio and its pretty good, but they're not as generic as gotjuice said. i'm definitely gonna watch them tomorrow.
