Super Furry Animals

Best thing to come out of Wales since ............ well ever really.

Radiator = Best British album of the 90s

I'll have to disagree with your first statement, being born in Wales and all.

Second statment, hell yeah!! Crazy, catchy, cool, original, melodic,

I'll probably disagree with best album of the 90s once I've begun making my best albums of each year list but nothing better is jumping out at me. Someone's obviuosly gonna come along and say Ok Computer or Nevermind and every 90s cliched album under the sun. But most of them have probably never listened to Radiator. Yeah Nevermind and the Bends etc were amazing, and they've inflenced loads of other bands. But the thing about the SFA is they are impossible to immitate. And I love albums where every single track could be a single and this is one of them.

Demons, She's Got Spies, Play it Cool, Chupacabras, Mountain people, Hermann Loves Pauline... its genius. The music in download is beautiful melody, thats the best thing every song is totally different.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-02-2005 07:50 PM

Well I love Radiohead , but Radiator has been played on my stereo much much more than OK Computer ever was.

And Nevermind wasn`t British ;)

Sweet Jane 01-02-2005 08:03 PM

Jesus, how did i skip that... thats what I get for staying up staring at a computer screen past 2am, damn insomnia

Then insert Beck: Odelay, My Bloody Valentine: Loveless, Primal Scream: Screamadelica, Pulp: Common People, Stereolab: Emporer Tomato Ketchup, Aphex Twin: The Richard D James album, Belle and Sebastian, If you're feeling sinister etc ect where I said Nevermind.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-02-2005 08:09 PM

Ok then

But Loveless is unlistenable bollocks ;)

Sweet Jane 01-02-2005 08:17 PM

I don't care enough about My Bloody Valentine to argue but you know what I mean, someone will, everyone I know seems to wet themselves over it. Pulp are good contendors though

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-02-2005 08:26 PM

I don`t think I could choose between His n Hers or Different Class I love them both equally.

Oh and Modern Life Is Rubbish should be a contender too

Sweet Jane 01-02-2005 08:35 PM

Hmm... always preferred Pulp personally, I could take or leave Blur but I see your point

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-05-2005 07:12 AM

I`m gonna bump this because I got Love Kraft today.

Holy **** , i`ve waited about 8 years for the Super Furries to make a decent album.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you

Sweet Jane 09-06-2005 11:24 AM

My sentiments exactly. I wasn't so fussed with Rings Around The World or any of that, but this is beautiful stuff, back to the good old days.

OhioHeat is my new Autumn song. Cloudberries is a wee gem too. I love the way SFA make albums. Do you have a favourite song? It's one of those ones where any could become a single.

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-06-2005 11:42 AM

I love Lazer Beam & Atomik Lust.

I was glad to see they had Sean O Hagan working on this album , as I was a HUGE High Llamas fan.

I didn`t know Gruff had a welsh language solo album out , you heard it?

ladyluckrules 09-06-2005 11:57 AM

Ah, I'm seeing them on the 11th along with all sorts at Bestival~

I don't know much about the High Llamas to be honest, considering the fair amount of albums they have racked up. And while I have not heard Gruff's solo album as yet I saw the tracklisting on my travels somewhere, sounds interesting... aah here we go:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/music/sit...fa_gruff.shtml

"And I'm considering splitting up after this record. I'm not sure exactly where, horizontally, or vertically."

Think I'm going to see SFA too, they're touring this month and next. My friends suck I'm getting a ticket anyway no WAY I'm missing this now.

So I'm taking it you didn't like Guerrilla? Mm, I forget what the name of the album was before Guerrilla (it had 'Herman loves Pauline' on it), that was the only other album of theirs that I've heard :(
I'll have to check out the new album, I heard one song off of it the other day and it sounded pretty f'ing good.

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-06-2005 12:17 PM

The High Llamas have a kinda best of/unreleased stuff double album out called Retrospective.

If you like the Super Furries , Flaming Lips , Mercury Rev type stuff you`ll love this.

It wasn`t as much that I hated it , It was just a huge disappointment after the first 2 albums.

ladyluckrules 09-06-2005 12:21 PM

That's the full line-up so I'm looking forward to the 'Go! team'!

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-06-2005 12:28 PM

Super Furries AND The Go Team ??????

You realise i`m hating you more & more with every post ;)

ladyluckrules 09-06-2005 12:35 PM

hate post #3
The magic numbers were on friday but yeah....i'd rather just go the one day and not have to pay to see one band seeing as the line up isn't as good.

Yeah that'll be Radiator you're talking about Hookers. Amazing album, really.

I seen the Go! Team last Sunday ladyluckrules, you're in for a fantastic show! :)

cloudwalrus 09-15-2005 09:50 AM

Great band. Longevity is amark of greatness and their on their 7th album. Not yet produced a bad album and are a superb live act. Plus the new albums not yet been out of my player.

ladyluckrules 09-15-2005 11:29 AM

It was so great! Me and my friends were jumping around like loony hobos, and people were falling about everywhere, when they played the man don't give a f*ck and saturday morning and loads of other songs, extremely good performance, plus he had a nice power ranger helmet.

cloudwalrus 09-21-2005 05:56 AM

Anyone dig their new album, love kraft?

My fav SFA songs are "northern lights" "don't give a ****" "Libertybell" and "At least its not the end of the world"

loveissucide 01-03-2010 08:41 AM

Dark Days/Light Years was great, best since Rings Around The World.
They'll sadly never top Radiator though.

The Fascinating Turnip 01-04-2010 05:01 PM

Hmm, I gave a listen to Radiator, but i'll probably have to listen to it a few more times. Chupacabras and Bass Tuned To DEAD stood out i believe, but i think i'll need to listen to the whole album with absolutely no distractions (Chucapabras is pure energy, great tune). It seems promising, but i guess i have to get used to the voice.

The Fascinating Turnip 01-12-2010 11:37 AM

Right, gave it a lot more listens, very good album, much more highlights than those 2. Herman Loves Pauline is effing brilliant.

Bulldog 01-12-2010 11:48 AM

Amazing little band, and easily a favourite of mine. That said though, I haven't really taken the chance to properly dig around their discography - must remember to do that sometime.

A few of my favs for the sake of the uninitiated;

Yeah...

The Fascinating Turnip 01-13-2010 03:16 PM

I thought Radiator was very good, not sure what i should check out next tho...Guerrilla?
