Jawbox
I have recently become aware of the glory of Jawbox, and I am interested in finding more music in a similar vein.
|
Cornflake Girl is dope. I don't really know what quality you're looking for though in similar music. Maybe you'd like Quicksand?
|
It seems Quicksand is okay though I think their guitarists former band Gorilla Biscuits was better....
|
Agreed. I'm actually not a huge Quicksand fan myself.
You already listen to Jawbreaker, I'm guessing? |
Indeed.
|
Unwound, Polvo, Juno are kind of sort of similar.

Closer to Jawbox, however, would be J. Robbins' bands since the break-up of Jawbox...Burning Airlines (two albums) and Channels (one album and one EP). I recommend everything by both. Additionally, I would point you in the direction of The Casket Lottery, The Dismemberment Plan, Faraquet, Fireside, Fugazi, Seven Storey Mountain, mewithoutYou (not their latest, though), and 31Knots. |
I have only just discovered Jawbox and well impressed. Give Bitch Magnet a listen as well.

Woah...I just discovered that Jawbox reunited and performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. They have no plans to record or even tour, they just did a show to promote the re-release of For Your Own Special Sweetheart, I think. Videos here, I am about to watch. Savory aired and the other two were done in rehearsal.

I've got For Your Own Special Sweetheart, and its pretty good in a 7/10 way, there are better post-hardcore bands from around the same period though, granted this judgement is made upon the strength of one album.
|
Yeah I would rate the album about the same, maybe up to an 8. Their final album, Jawbox, is pretty good too, if not a little better (though more polished). Their second one, Novelty, is good but I'd rate it a little lower, and don't really like their debut, Grippe.
To be honest I enjoy J. Robbins' later projects better, Burning Airlines and Channels. Better melodies I guess. |
Is Channels as good as Burning Airlines? Mission: Control! is up there among my favorite post hardcore albums. Sadly I can't recall listening to anything by Channels yet.

i know what exactly what you mean...bands of the same era like Fugazi, Rodan, Slint & Drive Like Jehu shit all over them. |
Totally, if you put FYOSS up against something like Today's Active Lifestyles, Repetition or Rusty there's only going to be one winner.
I've never seen Slint as Post-Hardcore, bit of a moot point but interesting all the same. |
