Camper Van Beethoven
Been raiding their discography a bit much lately.
Mid to late eighties indie rock, very accessible and they've got some awesome works under their belt. Split up before anyone could give a shit about them but they still managed to create a few good albums. Incorporate a lot of different sounds into their material, ranging from ska to to punk to country and a violin in between. Sounds like a crossover of Robyn Hitchcock and the Feelies. I recommend: Telephone Free Landslide Victory (1985) Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart (1988) Key Lime Pie (1989) Let me know if anyone wants any further information.

They are pretty strong and very much have their own sound and style. I reviewed their self titled in my members journal a few weeks back, good call on the thread New School.

i feel like this band could have popped up any time in the last twenty years and not sounded out-of-place. it seems like everything they were doing at the time was pretty much a precursor for what alternative music was to transform into.

Take the Skinheads Bowling is hysterical and one of my favorite's. By the way, CVB became the band "Cracker".

I can help anyone out who needs a link to the album, the eponymous effort includes a vast array of their eclectic forays into the far reaches of music genre.

I'm not really into joke bands but incidentally I heard this song (Take the Skinheads Bowling) on the radio earlier today and it has stuck in my head. And now this thread is bumped...coincidence?
