Someone once gave me a collection of everything TBP had ever recorded, downloaded off SoulSeek I think, and it wasn't the ideal introduction cause there was just too much stuff on there including live performances etc, too much to sort through, although some of it was clearly brilliant. |

Nick Cave is currently in my top 1001-2500. That's my 5th tier. (I don't have my rankings more fine-tuned than that.)
|
I want to see your top 2500 list. I can't get past 200. :D

Currently I've got 8 tiers with increasing numbers of artists in each tier. 8 is 10,001 up at this point. 9 would be if I get to over 20,000. The main reason for this is for listening purposes. The higher the tier, the more often I play albums from that artist. It's a way to ensure that I'm hearing favorites more often, but also I listen systematically to avoid hearing anything so often that I get burned out on it. |

None of those are from fresh and new artists though.

Rock is only alive and well if fresh new artists are pumping out great records? |
Of course. If there's no new talent to carry the torch, then even if the rock mainstays keep churning out records (although I would say most of those bands are well past their prime), all we have to do is wait for them to die off. It's true, Mick Jagger is still alive, but do the Rolling stones keep rock and roll alive? Or is rock and roll in fact, enabling them to have some sort of unnatural hold on life?? Hmmm??
|
What do you consider 'new' talent to be? Ty Segall and Japandroids aren't 'new' enough for you?
You seriously think those two bands, just for example, are going to eventually (say in 10-15 years or something) stop making records and there will be no new talented bands making great rock albums? |
Well Japandroids have been around for more than 15 years and are pushing 40. Ty has also been around for more than a decade.
By new and fresh artists I mean people in their early to mid 20s, which is normally when kids are rocking the hardest. But anyway, sure, I think there will probably always be some rock bands around. Just not sure if they will be as exciting as ones we've already seen. |
