Murder Ballads is great... I've kinda missed out on hearing everything from Mr. Cave... the last album I bought by him was The Lyre of Orpheus double album... I really ought to find everything since then because I know I'll like it, as I have done everything previous... it's just a matter of time!

As for the title of this thread, well, as much as I love his music, i can't consider him better than any other artist posted here... that is highly subjective, and I, too, like other artists better.

You're judging this by the forum today. You should have seen the state of this place in 2004 when I made it ;)

Dr.Seussicide 08-21-2010 05:15 PM

I think what Urban's trying to say is that he's the purveyor of everything good and pretentious here at MB.

Maybe.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-21-2010 05:16 PM

And that

Hmmmm, yes, since i wasn't here then, I can only accept that it was highly likely Nick Cave was better than a good many artists that were probably posted about...

Took that long for a Nick Cave thread to be made?Given how net-savvy his fanbase are that's a surprise.

scottsy 08-22-2010 09:13 AM

I'm instantly thinking that some time in MB's genesis as a web site it may have sported some fairly terrible music and opinions... well if that was the case, thank God it changed! When i joined late in 2008 I was very impressed by the diversity of topics / artists / subjects on offer... it's still a very compelling forum to this very day.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-24-2010 10:45 AM

Back in 2004 it was pretty much all punks , emo kids & classic rock fans with a couple of indie & metal kids.

scottsy 08-24-2010 01:04 PM

Glad that MB has significantly diversified since then! Might not have hung around too much if that was the only clientelle hanging about...

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-24-2010 01:17 PM

Still, it was the right place to come if you wanted to share your opinion of Led Zeppelin in 20 different threads.

scottsy 08-24-2010 10:19 PM

Oh joy! The monotony of repetive praises for one (albeit good) band! A reason to visit, I'm sure it was!

"My baby calls me the Loch Ness monster. Two great big humps and then I’m gone".

It's a 10!

eccles cake 09-15-2010 03:21 PM

Only listened to the new lp twice and for me it's about a 7 or 8 but I'm sure that'll go up with a few more spins . Also just finished reading The Death Of Bunny Monroe . Great stuff. Reminded me a bit of Martin Amis.

Maribel 09-15-2010 07:25 PM

Cave = God.

I have yet to hear an album by him I didn't absolutely love.

eccles cake 09-18-2010 06:10 AM

Right , have given '2' a gooood listen now, and it's deffo a 10 for me . It works quiet, it works loud ( of course) and i'm liking it ALOT.
Just going to give some Birthday Party a blast now .
I'm gonna release the bbaaaattttsssssssssssss !!!

bugsy2301 10-26-2010 11:44 AM

Still need to give Grinderman 2 a listen. Even if I'd rather he stuck with the Bad Seeds.

I got Grinderman 2 on the day of release and still haven't listened to it, despite the fact that I've been looking forward to it for a good 3 years now.

Screen13 11-01-2010 04:02 PM

I will, despite heaping praise for others elsewhere, have to seriously agree with the title of this thread. Although I have not heard everything, I'm seriously in total respect. The Birthday Party created some of the most serious, mind-bashing work ever, and Cave since then has a body of work that's hard to top. Loved Tender Prey (A favorite road tape "back in the day"), still remember getting Your Funeral...My Trail just shortly after when it was released and being into it as well as the Tupelo EP that introduced me to his solo work, and I still give the DVD of his videos a spin from time to time as the music is consistently classic and the amusing bits are worth viewing again - The Nick and Shane Show on "What a Wonderful World" is both jaw-dropping and great alone. I may not have got into The Good Son (a little too laid back for my ears), but it still has moments that still remain with me (The vibes still ring on, classy sounds).

I have to disagree there, friend. Luckily Dylan isn't in the Indie & Alternative forum

True, but only by a little.

Nick Cave doesn't sing like a flatulent frog though.

I guess I don't really know what flatulent frogs sing like.

You make that sound like a bad thing.

Nick Cave has bigger balls than most young acts, he rips shit up.

He also makes better music and writes better lyrics.

mandelstam13 11-09-2010 12:47 AM

Nice Cave is better etc. He's good, but who is going to agree with that unless you really like him? And if you do, then every post will just say "Agree!"

Grinderman 2 was a huge disappointment tbh.

I disagree. I think Cave is the better lyricist but Waits is the better composer.
