Birthday Party guitarist, Nick Cave collaborator, dies

Australian rock musician Rowland S Howard has died.

The former Birthday Party guitarist is believed to have been battling liver cancer and was awaiting a transplant.

Howard's career spanned three decades, in which he released a number of solo albums and had a number of collaborations with acclaimed Australian musician Nick Cave.

This is such a shame. Some of the Birthday Party's guitar work is just incredible, one of my very favourite guitarists. His solo stuff is pretty rad too ... RIP

This.

I'm also deeply offended by the lack of Darker With the Day on that list too - not only my favourite Cave song but also one of my 10 favourite songs ever.

On another note, the new Grinderman tune sounds fucking great. Can't wait for the new album.

It's not a bad list really and it's good that it pays attention to his whole discography. And I'm glad that Release the Bats was the highest ranked BP track.

For me, the glaring omission is Loom of the Land which is my fav Cave track. I think the best track on Dig Lazarus Dig is Today's Lesson rather than the other two that were up there. I'm biased towards Tender Prey so I'd have Watching Alice up there too. City of Refuge is great but I'd possibly swap it for Slowly Goes the Night. And I'd probably swap Love Letter for I Let Love In.

I think it's also a bit lame how Heathen Child's on that list, despite the album not being out yet. True, it's an excellent song, but surely it's a bit soon?

I'm gonna attempt my own list and try and put it in order too, maybe post it here tomorrow or something...

The man himself asked for it to be on there, he also peronally wanted The Mercy Seat as #1.

No "Are You The One I've Been Waiting For" OR "Mercy"?
