Default Idlewild

since this board is dominated mainly by americans i'm saying that you should all check idlewild out. they are about to release their fourth full length album. they are scottish. check out "the remote part" if you can or failing that, "hope is important" or "100 broken windows"

they are also unbelievable live.. been my favourite band for ages..

anyone else heard them?

Yes, ditto. There are so many amazing Scottish bands. Not that I'm biased at all....

I was recommended by a friend to check them out a few years ago. I think I have a few songs of theirs......they're not too bad. I haven't listened to them thoroughly yet.

If you`re going to get Americans listening to British music why chose one of the most boring one dimentional bands to come out of Britain in the last 10 years?

What's boring about them? Always, at the least, decent music, decent lyrics, very good live... Can't say fairer than that for consistency.

Pray, tell which British bands not known so well in America you would have picked?

In fact, answering my own question, I'm gonna go for Delgados, Sons and Daughters, Belle and Sebastian, Smog, Camera Obscura and Arab Strap. The Smiths on the off-chance they aren't so well known, but I assume they must be.

Idlewild's lead singer once asked my then girlfriend if she wanted to go backstage after a show. Apparently he had really, really bad teeth. She said no.

Good band, I like them.

Well to be honest i`d probably say half that list you gave too , although i`d probably throw in some non rock stuff like David Holmes , Massive Attack & Aphex Twin too.

Whats wrong with them ? Well to me they`re just your average run of the mill rock band with nothing to stand apart from the millions of others that clog up the music industry.

Aphex Twin, good choice. Who's David Holmes?

He`s an Irish DJ who mixes a lot of obscure 60s & 70s soul , funk & blues.

He also has a band called the Free Association.

If you want to check him out get the albums Bow Down To The Exit Signs (Which features cameos from the likes of Jon Spencer, Bobby Gillespie & Martina Topley Bird) , Come Get It I Got It (Which is a mix CD of his favourite soul , funk & blues stuff) & there`s also The Free Association which is all original material written by him & his band.
