SST records appreciation thread!
ok, Greg Ginn might be a picklefuck but his label was still pretty epic. the heyday of alternative music is since long past, but damn, the music still gives me chills.
in case you were wondering, here's a few of the bands which got their careers started with Solid State Transmitters (deep breath now): Black Flag (duh) Dinosaur Jr. Minutemen Sonic Youth Meat Puppets Saint Vitus Husker Du Descendents ... show some love! |
I used to idolize this label, the bands on it have probably been the most important in shaping my taste in music.
My top 3 albums from it are pretty cliche, but: Black Flag- Who's Got The 10 1/2 Sonic Youth - EVOL Husker Du - Zen Arcade it's a shame it went to s'hit at the end. |
like i was trying to say: shit label, great music.
some of my favorites (cliche as well): Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets II |
I really like Saccharine Trust and Universal Congress Of as well, Joe Baiza was a great guitarist. Blind Idiot God are another one I enjoy who aren't as well known as the bands mentioned so far, quite a unique band.
never liked SWA that much though, Dukowski's band after he left Black Flag. |
i've heard of Saccharine Trust in passing but apart from that i don't really know anything by them. what's a good record to start with?
|
I've never owned much SST. I think Husker Du, Black Flag and Saint Vitus are about it. I do own an SST sampler cassette from the early to mid 80s that I inherited from my older brother though. That's an interesting little time capsule right there.
