I enjoy Girlyman, they're pretty good, though some songs fall short.

I have some Sufjan Stevens, he's one of my favorites. I have to check out Beirut.

All Country's "mainstream"? Rubbish. Such a ridiculous statement is that that it is hardly worth replying to.

Just about all these bands mentioned in this thread are discussed in the Country/folk and world music board. Why be embarrassed to put them there?

Just to add I rarely visit this board because I have a dislike for the terms Indie and Alternative. Independent of what or alternative to what?! Maybe they meant something once but in this day and age, and on an educated site such as Music Banter they are meaningless terms.

I've actually been getting into some indie folk lately. Beirut, Cocoon, Pickering Pick, Timesbold, and Singleman Affair just to name a few.

Really appreciate your extreme candor. Give me a break, I'm new here. I only said it because I saw some posts there about some very mainstream country pop and I thought I would get more of what I was looking for over here. Wouldn't have been embarrassed in the slightest to put them over there. Since I haven't spent a lot of time on these boards, I didn't know what had been discussed over there earlier. And when I think of indie I think of the difference between artists like Shania Twain and Eliza Gilkyson. Some difference in their approaches don't you think?

Peace. No insult was intended.

I have no interest in separating music into mainstream or alternative or Indie. I do get frustrated by elitism in music. Because something is popular with the masses does not make it bad.

No problem. Sorry I got irritated. I don't view myself as elitist at all since I really enjoy many popular artists as well as less known ones. I was only making a distinction that I thought would help me find what I was looking for.
