Spacemen 3
The other day I was browsing around on Itunes when I stumbled upon these guys. I listened to their most popular songs and they sound great. Apparently these guys go in the same category with bands like The Black Angels and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Does anyone else like Spacemen 3? And does anyone know what their best album is? I think I'm going to purchase one.
|
Playing With Fire is my favorite, but I just got into them. Loose Lips sink ships is more knowledgeable in the matter of Spacemen 3 I think.
|
"Playing With Fire" was one of their most popular albums, but in no way is it their best. "The Perfect Prescription" and "Taking Drugs to Make Music Take Drugs" are their best IMO, but anyway "Playing With Fire" is their most accessible album and definately worth checking out if you're just getting into them. I'd also reccomend that you check out Spiritualized(Jason Peirce) and Spectrum(Peter Kember aka. Sonic Boom) if you're into Spacemen 3.
ps. if anyone has a hard time finding Spectrum albums then just give me a pm and I'll help you out. |
Ok thanks guys. Any possibilities that they might be in Best Buy or some other large retail store?
|
I`ll second Perfect Perscription and also check out Spiritualized`s Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space.

Ok, well I figure If I'm gonna shop online I'll just search on Amazon. I'm thinking about buying either Playing With Fire or Perfect Perscription and I'm also going to get Phallus Dei by Amon Düül II. Also, which album has the song "I Love You" on it?
|
Try Loop and Swervedriver too. You may like them as they share certain musical traits.
|
Loop albums are hard to come by...but anyways "Gilded Eternity" is a great album.
|
I just downloaded The Perfect Perscription the other night. I found the second half of the album to be rather unnecessary, but the first half is great. Songs like "Walking With Jesus," "Transparent Radiation," and "Take Me To The Other Side" are truly masterpieces. I'm definately looking forward to getting more of their work.
|
"Come Down Easy", "Transparent Radiation" and "That's Just Fine" are my favorite songs on "Perfect Prescription". You live in Maryland? What Part?
|
Yeah It's a really cool album. I live in Cecil County. How about you? You also from MD?
|
I live in Baltimore County...I've yet to meet someone that's heard of Spacemen 3, it's truly depressing.
|
Ah, well it's good to meet someone on here who lives relatively close to me. I'm not too far from B-more county; one of my friends actually lives there. And I have never met anyone who's heard of them either. I just discovered them by chance actually. I was listening to the Black Angels on iTunes and it recommended them to me. And now I'm hooked!

You should look around for live recordings and there are 2 dvd's out there (that I know of) worth checking out. Here's a clip from one of the dvd's
Suicide pt.1 Suicide pt.2 |
I know this is really, really old news, but Spacemen 3 had a partial reunion a few months ago. Apparently it was to help sell paintings (or was it raise money?) for a former band mate who is terminally ill. Jason was invited to come, but like always he turned it down. Still pretty cool though. I don't Jason is ever going to speak to Peter again, too many bad memories and hostile feelings. Jason is pretty adamant about never reuniting the men of space, it's cool though. I'd rather see my heroes die and not buy into that "Aww man, so many people miss us and we could make a quick buck off them." kind of deal. I think it's better if they don't get back together, I'd rather see them as sort of a legend.
Oh, and Kevin Shields is there. I mean, I'd rather see him in the studio working on the next MBV album. |

The live version of Suicide on Playing With Fire is orgasmic. |
'Transparent Radiation' is pure bliss. Their version of 'May The Circle Be Unbroken' is also a treat and a contender for my funeral song.
I've always preferred the quieter side of them. Naturally I'm a huge Spiritualized fan. |

Also, this is probably one of the funniest things I've ever read about anyone.
"I met Sonic Boom after that show lol. He was fucked and offered me and my mate some of his Burger King. We declined. I tried to ask him about music and guitars. He looked confused and annoyed and his wife lead him away with his Burger King. Surprisingly I definitely wasn't dissapointed by this meeting of one of my musical heroes, excellent show." God bless psychedelics. |
