Blatant Moldy Peaches ripoff
Wow, I came this close to vomiting. An Atlantica commercial just played with the exact vocal patterns/tradeoffs and melody as The Moldy Peaches' now signature tune "Anyone Else But You".
Juno further cheapens the current music scene by introducing "novelty" acts to scene kids. Ugh. |

You could say that about any "indie" inspired movie. Look at what Zach Braff did for The Shins. Besides, Kimya Dawson is probably pretty damn pleased with the Juno soundtrack, I'm sure her iTunes download count quadrupled since it's release.

Music's been so developmentally stagnant for so long it's easy to forget what it's like to have your intimate "friends" fall with the in-crowd. |
I don't think Kimya Dawson is the kind of person to care if she no longer has "indie cred" because she was part of an awesome soundtrack for a good movie. I don't see how the Moldy Peaches are a novelty act for scene kids though...

You Juno haters need to calm down... Whats wrong with a basically unknown artist making a little money off of a fantastic movie? You can't help the people buying the soundtrack or song.
No one got mad Dennis Hopper for exposing the world to Steppenwolf when he complied the music for the Easy Rider soundtrack. |
Oh I also don't see how The Moldy Peaches being ripped off by Atlantica is now Juno's fault. Christ now I know why boo boo gets so fed up with this hipster bullshit.
|
Ah Juno. What an annoying bitch.
She calls Sonic Youth crap and through the whole movie plays all this dull twee pop crap I can't stand. Paulie should have dumped that bitch yo. |

This is why I hate music "scenes" in general.
Because when bands from that scene become popular, or other bands become influenced by that scene, the scenesters bitch and whine about it. |

Plaguerism is plaguerism. I really liked Juno, to be honest, and I never meant to vilify it. Kimya Dawson didn't "sell out", and as I already said, I'm glad she's getting an assload of financial security. "Flavour of the week" status sucks; this commercial's a great testament to that. |
Oh. And yeah, I apologize for posting this here. I sorta didn't realize we had a Folk board.
|
Well okay I understand plagiarism is plagiarism and am by no means defending it I guess this is just the statement that confuses me.

I'm still confused about you being a long time fan then placing it in the rock/metal forum. |
WTF is wrong with people just because a band was in a movie and more people are into them they are no longer listenable ? That's stupid and chances are anyone who feels this way only listen to wierd obscure bands not because they actually LIKE them but because they think that it will make them a more interesting and give them chances to **** on people who don't know who they are talking about. Also your a **** for calling the moldy peaches a novelty act their a very good honest incredibly charming band, people like you annoy me more than straight edge kids and that is saying ALOT

Post-Hipsters - hipsters who hate other hipsters for being hipster. |

k because frankly, I think being scene and being a hipster are on completely different planets.
It's pretty easy to tell when someone is a scene kid. But since "hipster" is a term meaning to be hip or cool or down or whatever with the current times there is room for a vast generalization that causes all the douche bag hipsters to give all the nice ones bad names. When I say douche bag hipsters of course I mean the ones who constantly scowl at you and try to claim that Radiohead is better than the Beatles. In my case, I may be a hipster but I listen to all kinds of music and appreciate it for what it is. |
Mebbe if u guise diddnt get so territorial about other people'ss stuff and mindded your own bizniz per sum absurdist dogma, u'd actually b moar pretentious than u r being rite nao, and ppplz wuddn't giggle about u cuz u seem déclassé, wich is all u rly want neways.
|
I don't see how anyone could get upset about kimya dawson getting popular because she still plays diy shows.

Also: Just because I'm a "long time fan" doesn't mean I'm familiar with this forum's layout. Did you actually read this thread? |

Also, I don't understand how a lack of familiarity led you to believe the Moldy Peaches, an anti-folk band, belonged in a rock and metal forum. |
I see this discussion leading no where but may as well chime in.
I really don't see why you're so concerned with people liking a song in a movie. True, that when people lap it up and attempt to look down on you for musical tastes its annoying, but its really shallow of them. Hell I couldnt give a **** about people not liking my music taste. That like people trying to be elitist because I don't like bananas or I don't know what some obscure fruit it. Bootom line: like what you like, if other people want to put their heads for far up their asses let em. |

As for the second part, I already admitted it was a mistake/result of laziness. Who cares? |
