Gone ahead and downloaded the Cranes discography. Really enjoyed Wings of Joy.
Treasure is probably my favourite Cocteau Twins album, along with Heaven or Las Vegas. I'll be giving Victorialand a listen later today.

To me it's definitely not their strongest album, and it's heavily in debt to Siouxsie and the Banshees, but I do like the dark gothic vibes of Garlands. I think a lot of this is due to their original bass player Will Heggie's playing style.
He went on to form Lowlife, who were another one of the links between gothic rock and shoegaze and are worth checking out.

I've got a few Cocteau Twins albums and For me Treasure, and the compilation, The Pink Opaque, always make it out into the CD player. The Spangle Maker is brilliant, especially at the end when it all explodes. I like Ivo a lot too.
It can get bombastic after a while with all that '80's drum machine, but Liz Fraser's voice is dreamy! |
