Enon - any fans? (lyrics, tickets, country, instrumental, rock)

I really dig them of late. John Schmersal, formerly of Brainiac, is the mastermind behind this three-piece band from Philadelphia. Previous line-ups saw ex-Skeleton Key members Steve Calhoon (later replaced by former Blonde Redhead bassist Toko Vasuda) and Rick Lee, who features on the critically acclaimed and my personal favourite album 2002’s High Society. I would advocate this album as a good introduction to anyone wanting to check out this band. Their style is both creative and intellectual, featuring imaginative instrumental arrangements and sophisticated lyrics.

They start a US tour this month. Tickets tend to be quite cheap, so to anyone fortunate enough to live near the venues I think it would really be worth your time to check them out. Check their myspace for tour dates, where mp3s and vids are available for your listening pleasure:

I remember checking them out, after learning John Schmersal was in the band. I loved Brainiac at that point. This band were quite different, not what I expected. I like them though, and I saw them live at the beginning of February and they were solid live.

You gonna go see them on their tour?

Aw that's so cool that you saw them live. I'm a relatively new fan (got into them just before the release of Grey Geysers) so I've not yet had the pleasure.

If they decide to come to Ireland after their US tour I will def try to fit it in. They played a low-key gig near me in 2003 so hopefully they'll come back. It would be a damn shame if my exams got in the way because judging from the live vids I've seen, their performances are pretty intense.

The quality isn't very good on this but holyshi', like

Brainiac and Enon are very different bands but I dig them both. Even as a keen Brainiac fan, though, I must say I prefer Enon.

Have you listened to Grass Geysers... Carbon Clouds?

Haha yeah Brainiac are slightly harder to get into sometimes.

Ahh, I didn't realise you're from Ireland. Well, I saw them in Glasgow in early February. I was looking through their tour dates, and they also played in Belfast. I dunno how near you are to belfast, but if you live across the road from the venue or something then you should be pretty gutted just now!

I haven't heard Grass Geysers yet, any good? The songs from that album that they played when I saw them sounded really good, and I was meaning to check the album out but I keep forgetting. I've heard both High Society and Hocus Pocus, and they're both sweet.

Grass Geysers is really good. It's a step away from High Society in terms of feel and texture but still retains that distinctive quality you would expect to falter after four years.

Pardon me for reviving this post, but this band is one of my favorites, and I'd love to connect with some other fans.

I have High Society, Grass Geysers, and Believo!
High Society is my favorite album, but some of the songs on Believo! are my favorite songs.
Grass Geysers is more upbeat and heavier than the other two. I was surprised. It's very different.
