Exclamation Hey leave Congratulations alone (MGMT)

Congratulations

I’m new so if my post sucks or I’ve got my facts wrong let me know
This has already been posted on the offical mgmt forums but after noticing every one would be for the album there there would be no discussion.

Lets be honest I was one of those people who skipped the whole album to find the best three songs.

After doing so I actually listened to the album which seems far from most people.

I loved the album, I think that it for fills the huge expectations that were thrown upon them. It seems that this album has been underrated by many of the critics, just because the album hasn’t got any instant hits. Sadly mgmt has way too many two song fans and aren’t getting the credit that they should be for congratulations. "Last month they were booed in London for not playing ‘Kids’." What did they expect? Where they so brain dead to think mgmt where going to walk on stage, repeat their 3 most played songs, Then forget about umm I don’t know maybe their new album.

I’m not sure what all the ranting is about in my opinion the album is spectacular and consistent throughout. The reviews aren’t all bad and some interesting points and views have been raised about the new album.

What’s your view?

Do you feel that Mgmt have failed to create a good album?

Quote:
MGMT have taken a more dynamic approach to song writing on this album, tossing aside the dancing thump of “Electric Feel” and “Kids” in favour of songs that build in a more deliberate and satisfying way. “Flash Delirium” folds upon itself again and again, ramping up to a Wall of Sound chorus before letting loose with a big, glam/garage finish, as if to vent off any excess musical pressure before heading into the more subdued “I Found a Whistle.”

Allmusic 4.5 / 5
Spin 4 / 5
Mojo 5 / 5
NME 6 / 10

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love music and I upload music mixes. (A few of my favourite songs in one video)

Guy1: Is this the same band that released kids?
Guy2: Yes it is.
Guy1: What so congratulations is there first album?
Guy2: No it’s their second album.
Guy1: Really they have other songs besides kids?
Guy2: ....

machiinate, I feel MGMT has created a good album with a consistent and interesting sound. The songs on this new album seem more experimental and subtle than most on Oracular Spectacular.

While I prefer their hits ("Time to Pretend," "Kids," etc.), I don't dislike their other songs, and some I quite like or at least find interesting on their new album. I didn't know they were booed in London. That's pretty harsh!

I also like some of their earlier songs that aren't famous, including the following. Also, one of their older songs I like is one for which they created a video in which they dress up like joints and lungs...wish I could find it again!

"Indie Rokkers"

"Love always remains"

i think that MGMT is one of the best-influenced group these days. The song "Brian Eno"? Brian Eno is an ambient god.

wouldn't the best-influenced group be the best group in general?

Why would they be booed for not playing a song. Kids is overrated, maybe they wanted people to actually hear something that wasnt chart ****e.

edit: unrelated, my post count is now my birth year, 1991 woot!

Their older stuff is really fun, but the newest album goes into some pretty psychedelic territory that i don't care to follow into. but "kids" has really gotten a ton of airplay. I was in Thailand last year and it was blasting during some of the beach parties.. I was pretty surprised.

Their new album is fantastic. They didn't fall under major label pressure, and they did what they wanted to do. The album is much much better than their last, great 'indie' band with a pop tinge thrown in. Love it.

Everyone goes for the chart shit and they always assume they'll play it at the end. Then they don't and the people who came for the one song flip out.
