Default Midlake

The trials of Van Occupanther

They're from Denton, Texas and play wonderful mellow music, very early seventies ; I'm not very familiar with that kind of music, so maybe one can compare it to Crosby, Stills and Nash ( seriously depressed mind you ), a lot of harmonic vocals, early seventies bass lines and trumpet, lots of piano and the likes. This is their second album and it occupies a lot of "Best of 2006" lists, and for good reason. The vocals are reminiscent of My morning jacket, at times they even remind me of Thom Yorke ( Radiohead ). In short, it's the essence of fall captured on disk. Well worth a try for those prone to loneliness and nostalgia. Similar artist on last.fm include: M Ward, Grandaddy and Sufjan Stevens.
