Default Olivia Tremor Control

What a great band! Albumbase has a bunch of their stuff. A sort of folky experimental sound.

Im bumping this cos I was gonna make a thread myself.

Definately one of the most underrated bands out there. Dusk at Cubist Castle and Black Foliage are two lost gems of the 90's, and the fact that they have such an incredible sonic palette to their albums with a mere 4 track is proof of their near-genius.

Plus, they can write a damn fine pop song a-la Jumping Fences, NYC-25, Hideaway, Holiday Surprise, etc.

Quoted for truth. Dusk At Cubist Castle and Black Foliage are spectacular. They combined great, layered experimental stuff with super-catchy pop songs.

On a related note, their second incarnation, Circulatory System, was quite strong too. Not as amazing as Olivia Tremor Control, but still quite good stuff.

circulatory system are great too. I only have Black Foliage but it's all very 60's, alot of tape-splicing going on. Actually I'm a big fan of the Elephant 6 label/community in general - except Neutral Milk Hotel, never rated them for some reason
The Elephant Six Recording Company - Bands

60's twee-psych revival ftw.

My friend just introduced me to this band. He gave me Death at Cubist Castle. I hope that's a good place to start.

It is. I would say Dusk sounds like "The White Album" and Black Foliage is like a dark version of "Smile". I got Black Foliage first, and I found it took me much longer to get into than "Dusk" which I liked from the first time I played it.
