"with rock instrumentation"
Ballad: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...ition&ct=title
So a ballad is a song sung in verse only, right? So an anthem is a song sung in verse only with rock instrumentation, right?

Okay, if you're going to cite a source why not keep using the same source? I'm going to take a wild stab at thefreedictionary probably saying something along the lines of a ballad is a poem written meant to be sung or a popular romance song (which it is). Radiohead is neither. It probably does say that, my dictionary does so naturally you wouldn't use it because it contradicts your statements and you don't want that, you want to be "right not accurate".

Is all this arguing with ProggyMan starting to effect your own brain or something?

If that really is the criteria for a rock anthem then you've just made about 60% of them redundant.

Yeah **** I don't know what I was thinking. Back to the point, Radiohead were never anything like U2 and they were never anthemic rock.

So what's your definition of a ballad?

I suppose amongst all the bad Manic Street Preachers albums and Beatles rip offs it was a breath of fresh air, but it still wasn't much different from other 90s act and even if it was, we're well past the mid-90s now.
STILL completely disagree with you, all 3 songs you cite as mediocre are in my opinion great, Planet Telex is such a strong opening track which is aggressive whilst mellifluent, its such a robust song. The bends is indie rock at its best with really powerful lyrics. Bones is a masterfully crafted pop song with a great quiet-loud dynamic. I dont there are any duff songs on it, each one is brilliant in its own way. It isnt groundbreaking or revolutionary in any way (which is probably why its only my fourth favourite), but for what it is, its the best in its field by a mile.
