Lifeblood is a good example of what became the "new" Manic Street Preachers, ie anything after The Holy Bible. Whereas I can never claim to "hate" anything the Manics put out I'm indifferent to a lot of it now but Lifeblood is actually a very good record.

Come one come all and see the Manics attempt to claw back credibility by doing EXACTLY what everyone wanted them to do... that's lax socialism up and down. Honestly everything they do annoys me now, why can't they just drop the dead guy? They did the glam-era revival now they are doing the Holy Bible 2... does this mean we're getting heartfelt cashcow football terrace anthems after this? Spare us

Richie Edwards lyrics filled out with music that's bland middle of the road dross.
Woohoo , can't wait.

It's all terribly predictable, but they have already scored a small victory by getting me to post an advert for it on this forum. Damn |

Those song names are brilliant, i look forward to hearing Virginia State Epileptic Colony and All Is Vanity.
Judging from Peeled Apples though it's not THAT big a departure, i'm assuming it'll just be a louder version of the last one. |

I definitely don't think their music is bland middle of the road dross, Motorcycle Emptiness, You love Us, Die In the Summertime...
there's more to those tunes than that! Their stuff with Richie was great, particularly The Holy Bible, and he did write a lot of the lyrics on Everything Must Go, so he was still a part of it. |

I agree I kind of half hate them now after seeing this video. I mean why the **** are they covering Rihanna??. Its actually kind of scary to hear. Suppose they used to be great then they just kinda went all bland and boring although I do like some of the more recent stuff- only album i really liked from start to finish was 'Lifeblood'.
I'm missing The Killers at Reading to watch the Manics instead (damn clashes) gonna be great although they will be playing their new stuff as well unfortunately
This may be a blessing in diguise if its 'The Killers' that Im thinking of. Just better hope Manics arent having a Rihanna covers night. Also as for the new stuff dont knock it until youve heard it I know it aint a patch on old stuff but some songs are good.
It's not bad for what it is, a catchy pop song. It's the kind of song that some people are always going to hate. And never listen to Q ever. I agree Q magazine sucks **** big time. They used to be alright but then they started putting Lilly Allen & Green Day on the front covers I lost interest. Ill buy it now and again if theres a big feature or interview that i really like but very rarely now. I prefer Mojo or Uncut but even then its only if theres a good feature on it. Personally I think most of the magazines are **** and I dont really need them to know whats going on in the music world anyway. Quote:

Anyway I have all Manics Albums, I think Generation Terrorists or Holy Bible is the best. In their early days they were to me a punk band. Also I think 'Gold Against The Soul' is massively underrated with excellent songs such as 'Roses In The Hospital' , 'From Despair To Where' & 'Sympathy For Tourette'. Lifeblood is also massively underrated and I should probably stop talking about it so much.. |

When they first started out i hated them with a vengence! then a mate had a spare ticket to see them playing on the gold against the soul tour and to be honest they were fantastic, they did a great cover of Pennyroyal Tea! and Sleepflower is a blinder! i only really like the first albums upto the holy bible and find the later material a bit bland.
Will be interesting to see what the new album is like |
