Wild Mountain Nation is an unbelievable album. Its fractured pop is frantic, erratic and all over the place, but inspite of its extreme eclecticism it is one of those rare records that is able to do an insane number of different things yet still ultimately, strangely seems to finds its own sonic cohesion amidst the mess. Yes, there's a definite red thread of sorts running though.

There is also this vague country theme going on, though not from song to song but on scattered parts throughout the record. As you listen, imagine the wild mountain nation itself, and you'll find yourself entrapped in its world.

9/10, and fight with me over it if you like, but it's one of the top 20 albums of 2007. Word.

I'm putting it on again now. It really annoys me how I forget about releases like this because of a lack of time to listen to it repeatedly.

Their new album Furr is absolutely fantastic, one of the best LPs to come out this year. So consistent, not a single whiff of filler throughout. It's a lot more focused than Wild Mountain Nation was; not quite so insanely, wildly eclectic at all. Blitzen Trapper instead focus on their 'Sci-Fi Kid' side, that is to say, on making catchy and hook-laden (though still wacky) indie rock. They've also decided to bring out another of their strengths: their more folky, country side features in a number of tracks, and it's a most welcome addition as those songs are among the ones that work best.

Well worth anybody's while to check out. There is nothing in the slightest boring here, so even if it's not your thing, you'll at least find it of some interest if exciting/edgy music takes your fancy.

I'm into Blitzen Trapper. I've never gone to listen to Wild Mountain Nation or Furr and not enjoyed it. Furr and Black River Killer are two of my all time favourites, not to mention the Wild Mountain Nation from the of the same name album. And then there's loads of other quirky and really entertaining tracks. Love U, Devil's a Go Go, Sci-Fi Kid, Bla bla bla its all really good. Amazing mix of alternative, rock, pop, and country.

I'm not understand the "ok" assessment. Its just really really good.
