Besides the fact they spawned an entire movement of indie-rock clones and practically redefined the word 'indie' itself, yes. There has to be some subliminal message here that is steering me towards malkmus and the jicks.

possibly the most important indie band of the 90s. shame their career was so short. malkmus & the jicks are a quality band. dark wave in particular is on par with most pavement material.

Who's career was short? - Pavement's? There first album, Slanted and Enchanted was in 1991, but they were gigging around Oregon and northern California from around 1989 and the last album of theirs I bought, Terror Twighlight, was in 1999. In the intervening 8 years they released: Westing, Watery Domestic, Wowee Zowee, Crooked Rain, and Brighten the Corners. So I wouldn't say a short career. TBH I haven't heard much of Malkumus' stuff, but I enjoyed a decade of Pavement!

How can you not like a band with lyrics like these - "Show me a word that rhymes with Pavement. And I will kill your parents, and roast them on a spit."

Pavement rules.

Liked about a quarter of their output

The rest of it was wanky indie bollocks

Yeah, Slanted and Enchanted is awful for that. Some of it is great though. Think they stick too many tracks on an album, and they start lacking in quality.

I've only heard one song - All My Friends. 'Tis alright...growing on me.
