Pavement

Anyone here Like Pavement??

hookers with machineguns 07-05-2005 09:32 AM

Besides the fact they spawned an entire movement of indie-rock clones and practically redefined the word 'indie' itself, yes. There has to be some subliminal message here that is steering me towards malkmus and the jicks.

sexy_drug 07-06-2005 04:41 AM

Yeah but i noticed a few posts on them but not one on pavement

Sneer 07-06-2005 05:04 AM

possibly the most important indie band of the 90s. shame their career was so short. malkmus & the jicks are a quality band. dark wave in particular is on par with most pavement material.

Dylan 07-08-2005 06:56 AM

Who's career was short? - Pavement's? There first album, Slanted and Enchanted was in 1991, but they were gigging around Oregon and northern California from around 1989 and the last album of theirs I bought, Terror Twighlight, was in 1999. In the intervening 8 years they released: Westing, Watery Domestic, Wowee Zowee, Crooked Rain, and Brighten the Corners. So I wouldn't say a short career. TBH I haven't heard much of Malkumus' stuff, but I enjoyed a decade of Pavement! :)

How can you not like a band with lyrics like these - "Show me a word that rhymes with Pavement. And I will kill your parents, and roast them on a spit."

Pavement rules.

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-10-2005 03:53 AM

Liked about a quarter of their output

The rest of it was wanky indie bollocks

Yeah, Slanted and Enchanted is awful for that. Some of it is great though. Think they stick too many tracks on an album, and they start lacking in quality.

shandapanda 07-11-2005 01:58 PM

is one of their albums 'brighten the corners'?
then i know them..

_The_Repeats_ 07-12-2005 07:37 AM

I've only heard one song - All My Friends. 'Tis alright...growing on me.

SuperFurry 07-13-2005 04:23 PM

I like Pavement. Don't think they started all the 'indie' stuff off though. You know, you can look at bands like Dinosaur Jr, Guided By Voices & The Flaming Lips too.

Hear hear!

Good times, good times. Well, I actually only have their remastered album, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, but I love them still the same.

I have a good friend whose hair I just adore. When he was getting it cut, I freaked out and decided to get mine cut too. Later, he brought up Pavement's "Cut Your Hair." ****ing aww.

DidierD 07-20-2005 04:58 AM

derailment rhymes with pavement

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-20-2005 11:02 AM

Meeje 07-24-2005 10:45 PM

Just discovered this band this year. Gotta say instantly became one of my favorites of all time. Slanted & Enchanted & Terror Twighlight would be my favorite albums.

sexy_drug 07-31-2005 04:56 AM

Yeah slanted and enchanted, terror twillight and brighten the corners are kick arse albums

IndiElectronica 08-05-2005 07:11 AM

Superb band - love Slanted & Enchanted (even more the Luxe-Reduxe reissue). Saw them live in 95 or so and loved it.... Saw Stephen Malkmus 2 years ago at ATP as well and was very good. Wish he didn't have such a big ego though as then Pavement would still be together...

swim 05-12-2006 09:54 PM

bump.

Pavement is great. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is my favorite album. Theyre right up there with Dinosauar Jr. for me.

Decoy 05-12-2006 10:14 PM

Shady Lane is by far my favorite song.

boo boo 05-13-2006 04:35 AM

Frances 05-13-2006 05:30 AM

Enslavement rhymes with Pavement.

cardboard adolescent 05-14-2006 08:55 AM

You must hate your parents.

In any case, I only like Slanted and Enchanted. I also have Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Terror Twilight, but I don't particularly like either one.

But, Slanted and Enchanted is amazing.

Kadakron 05-15-2006 06:44 PM

A classic band for all indie lovers.

AprilMay 05-16-2006 12:17 PM

The Dave 05-31-2007 08:27 PM

I just got Slanted and Enchanted like 3 days ago and I've been digging use, caught it used for like $9. I reall like "In the Mouth a Desert" and "Fame Throwa"

vodka 06-05-2007 12:28 PM

excellent band i've listened to for years and they never get old. i would have to disagree on the statement that they started the indie scene too i think you've gotta be pretty young to say something like that. i dig all their stuff and think they are an example of a band who evolved nicely. i never really got into malkmus' solo stuff though.

boo boo 06-07-2007 04:35 AM

I've been digging Wowee Zowee a lot more lately.

Gav Quinn 06-09-2007 07:41 AM
