The Knife? Royksopp?

I want to know a little bit more about the two bands. The Knife is apparently the biggest thing in Sweden, and "Heartbeats" is a really catchy number.

Royskopp, is Norwegian I think...?... I don't own any of their albums, but just from the songs I have heard, the earlier album Melody AM is a bit better than their newer material.

adidasss 04-11-2006 05:47 PM

i've downloaded the new album from royksopp because i really liked that bear song from the first album....but i have concluded it's not really my cup of tea....especially since they have started to include really lame vocals...

and if i'm not mistaken, jose gonzalez did a remake of heartbeats...exellent song...

IndiElectronica 04-12-2006 03:15 AM

Royksopp have been around a while. Worth checking out all their stuff, but an aquired taste. A bit... hazy.

The Knife is already in the running for best electronica album of the year by many people. I'm not that big into them but you should certainly check them out!

adidasss 08-20-2006 05:23 PM

well i have discovered the knife just tonight, Heartbeats is even better when they do it, and the rest of the album is not too shaby either....i'm still downloading it, as well as the recent one....me likes lots...smooth, scandinavian, ice cold electro...mmmmm.....;)

IndiElectronica 08-21-2006 04:31 AM

yeah - i'm still surprising the **** out of people by playing them the original version of heartbeats...

adidasss 08-22-2006 05:00 PM

so, "we share our mothers health" is one of the best electro songs i've ever heard....goddamn those beats are incredible!!!

I finally decided to listen to their latest album today, and I totally agree with this.

adidasss 12-09-2006 04:13 PM

That and "Like a pen" are my two favourite songs on the album....one of the best electro albums of the year methinks...

Chronotub 12-21-2006 08:03 PM

We Share Our Mothers Health is nothing short of amazing, but the best track has to be Silent Shout, the melody is just so class

Dark Circle 02-15-2007 05:52 PM

WHAT WLSE IS THERE?

It was me on that road
But you couldn't see me
Too many lights on, but nowhere near here

It was me on that road
Still you couldn't see me
And then flashlights and explosions

Roads are getting nearer
We cover distance but not together
I am the storm and I am the wonder
And the flashlights, nightmares
And sudden explosions

I don't know what more to ask for
I was given just one wish

It's about you and the sun
A morning run
The story of my maker
What I have and what I ache for

I've got a golden ear
I cut and I spear
And what else is there
Roads are getting nearer
We cover distance still not together

If I am the storm if I am the wonder
Will I have flashlights, nightmares
And sudden explosions

There's no room that I can go and
You've got secrets too

i don't know what more to ask for
i was given just one wish

ROYSKOPP ROCKS!!!

The Thin White Duke Mix of this song is great.

IndiElectronica 02-21-2007 06:12 AM

i have TONS of remixes of these bands... working on my session 4 cd now and have 'silent shout' and 'What Else is there?' on it. In fact the opening song is 'silent shout' and been spending a lot of time on it, will likely end up being my own remix of the song :)

Thats one of my favorites. I've been a longtime fan of groups like this and Basement Jaxx, sweet little-known bands that have good beats. Did anyone notice they're using the song Remind Me in like an auto insurance commercial?

Expletive Deleted 02-21-2007 05:15 PM

Basement Jaxx are little known?

DearJenny 02-21-2007 09:44 PM

Well, by little known, I meant not mainstream.

Oh, and Enon too.

adidasss 02-22-2007 04:41 PM

Agreed, pretty mainstream dance.

DearJenny 02-22-2007 10:14 PM

^Oh really? I had never heard of them until a friend introduced me.

IndiElectronica 03-01-2007 06:44 AM

depends on where you live... they are mainstream in the UK and Europe, but not big in the US...

vodka 05-27-2007 08:59 PM

The Knife

lyrics, music, videos... all excellent in my opinion.

so deliciously strange but... somehow right on.

anyone else enjoy?

Do the dance clubs in Croatia play electronic music as well?
Because a good friend told me that is all they play in German night clubs, and now she has to teach me how to dance to electronica, so I won't look like a fool when we go out at night.

But I wasn't aware this was a trend all over Europe.

adidasss 05-30-2007 11:47 AM

What else would they play? Indie-rock?

chumb 05-30-2007 12:53 PM

They could play rap, I guess.

adidasss 05-30-2007 01:30 PM

We don't have black people here...>.>

chumb 05-30-2007 01:50 PM

All you need are white people obsessed with black culture. Wiggers, if you will.

adidasss 05-30-2007 02:43 PM

We don't have those either...*sigh*

chumb 05-30-2007 02:47 PM

You want some? We have a surplus.

It would be amusing to hear Indie rock, everyone would become so awkward.

But I was raised on music like this-
(I don't actually own any of this music, so i'm here are the music videos on youtube, it serves the same purpose.)

Very different from Electronica

adidasss 05-30-2007 05:00 PM

This is getting too off topic. You should download The Knife, they're pretty tight...although not exactly what they play in night clubs across Europe. Too bad.

Kevorkian Logic 05-30-2007 06:04 PM

I agree, too make up for my slight distraction, here's the link to Silent Shout.

Silent Shout

and if anyone wants The Knife or Deep Cuts, just holla.

=ladyface= 10-07-2007 06:08 PM

The Knife are very cool. The vocals are a little weird and when I first heard them I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.

A Lung is such a good song to listen to in the middle of the night.

Mouseketeer 10-08-2007 12:18 PM

If they're Swedish I gotta check them out, I'm meant to be there this time tomorrow, but am not. :(

Heartbeats is a goodern.

sidewinder 01-25-2013 04:19 PM

In case you don't know, The Knife will release Shaking the Habitual on April 8/9. They've revealed a new single, "Full of Fire", but it keeps getting pulled from YouTube and other places where an official video was posted. Are they screwing with us? I don't know. But I did have a chance to hear the 9+ minute song track once. I found it interesting but I think it will work better as part of the album. I was surprised that for a 9 minute track it didn't seem to really go anywhere. Not that I didn't enjoy the sounds. Really excited to hear the album.

Here is a rumored track list:

A Tooth for an Eye — 6:04
Full of Fire — 9:17
A Cherry on Top — 8:43
Without You My Life Would Be Boring — 5:14
Wrap Your Arms Around Me — 4:36
Crake — 0:55
Old Dreams Waiting to Be Realized — 19:02
Raging Lung — 9:58
Networking — 6:42
Oryx — 0:37
Stay Out Here (feat. Shannon Funchess) — 10:42
Fracking Fluid Injection — 9:54
Ready to Lose — 4:36

14232949 01-26-2013 09:20 PM

That's an ambitious track list. A lot of the songs are a lot longer than we're used to from this band. Hope they don't get carried away.

Goofle 01-27-2013 04:51 AM

Looking forward to it. Not heard much by them yet but that track listing looks ambitious enough for me to check it out.

Listen to Silent Shout ASAP, it's a great winter album.

So the sinlge was pretty damn great, too bad I only heard it once before the video got taken down. I believe the track listing is official. On one side I'm very happy with 98 minutes of The Knife, on the other hand I fear it might be a little too long. Double albums tend to bore me quickly.

Here's the single again.

Love it.

I agree, new material is good but long/double albums usually mean less filtering and some filler.

Aveenvp 01-30-2013 05:14 PM

The new single has me impressed. I'm definitely wanting to hear more.

The only album I own by them is Deep Cuts, which is a very strong album.

I also own Karin's solo project "Fever Ray", and absolutely LOVE it. Anyone else ever give that a listen?
