tapes 'n tapes

well both pitchfork and insound are raving about this band, i only got two songs so i can't really decide yet, i would've loved to have been able to download the entire album, but as usual, when ever you want to download something just a tad obscure, you can't...

tapes 'n tapes - insistor
tapes 'n tapes - cowbell
tapes 'n tapes - omaha

official site www.tapesntapes.com

anyone heard yet?

edit: well after 3 tracks, i say pitchfork is ,as always ,full of shit...but someone might still like it...

jambo 03-31-2006 03:03 PM

yeah they usually are full of ****. Their so pretentious and condecending with their reviews, which is funny because music critics that arent from successful bands are usually just lousy struggling musicians.

Expletive Deleted 03-31-2006 03:38 PM

I first heard the album when all the blogs were hyping the shit out of them, and I wasn't all that impressed. Not that bad, but nothing to write home about.

hookers with machineguns 03-31-2006 10:36 PM

I also got suckered into this band by those stinkin interneters. Nothing to dislike here, but something your collection could easily do without.

If someone makes a Band of Horses thread, just copy and paste this post for me.

venn diagrams 03-31-2006 10:50 PM

I thought Cowbell was pretty good. But they don't sound like anything special to me.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-31-2006 11:14 PM

Fucking hell , The Coral were doing this about 5 years ago.

YAWN

IndiElectronica 04-03-2006 03:44 AM

just got this and Band of Horses... both average bands with a few decent tracks.

That is all.

Leilani 04-03-2006 02:54 PM

man you guys are harsh! i really like tapes 'n tapes. most of their songs are different from one another in style. so you get a nice blend of several different genres. it's really grown on me.
i have yet to hear band of horses, i hear they sound like my morning jacket sorda. have any of you heard of my sexual dad from la?

IndiElectronica 04-04-2006 04:55 AM

i'm not harsh.. i just listen to A LOT of music and give credit where credit is due! I also do not have some hidden agenda like pitchfork has.... I simply like and play good music on my station. Some people agree, some don't. Simple!

Leilani 04-04-2006 11:37 AM

i listen to A LOT of music myself - & i've definitely written some bands off just because they were all the rage. you know, media overkill.
what are some of the bands that you do like?

What new project?

tell me tell me tell me

Leilani 04-04-2006 12:21 PM

yep! it came out on domino about a month ago. it's KIERAN HEBDEN AND STEVE REID - The Exchange Session Vol.1

i'd send you a link but i can't. not till i have 15 posts or some bs.

but you can check out boomkat.com

IndiElectronica 04-05-2006 04:09 AM

my last.fm profile is only a 50% my listening so not to be taken as a difinitive list of what I like... my radio is better. I update it a lot with new stuff and with no band playing more than every 3 hours I'm surprised you can say you've heard it all before - but if that IS the case we need to talk as I need help with playlist selection and if you listen to that much music (of the same variety especially) it may work out great!

I picked up the Exchange Session 1 over the weekend in a moment of weakness as i could have easily got it for free but didn't want to wait 2-3 weeks. Listened to it 3 times now... it's, well... a bit random. Only 3 songs and 25 minutes so I can't really recommend any pays full price. basically Kiearon going crazy on the computer (like he does recently at his live gigs - read that as, not very good and most people just leave) with a good drummer keeping it together, but nothing great on drums. i'd say 5/10 or so is all i'd give it as well.

That said - i'll be going the EYOE show in a month. 6 Organs of Admittance and Caribou DJ'ing at that gig. Dan from Caribou will be my first interview on my site when i get around to it :)

IndiElectronica 04-05-2006 07:05 AM

four tet info here - http://www.fourtet.net/site/index.html

Four tet site has a free mp3 concert worth getting! Not as good as Copenhagen... but is FREE! ;)

Leilani 04-05-2006 11:22 AM

yeah, i was the manager at a pretty cool underground record store for 3 years. i currently work as a booking agent & i do interviews and reviews for a website.
so yes, i do know my stuff!
what is EYOE? i soo love Caribou! Dan Snaith amazes me!! i really liked the manitoba stuff, too. & i really like six organs of admittance, too.
have you heard Red Sparowes? they kinda remind me of 6 organs/mogwai.
yeah, i've yet to hear the new kieren hebden stuff. i really loved the stuff he did in fridge. i was hoping for something more like that.

IndiElectronica 04-05-2006 01:47 PM

eyoe - http://www.eatyourownears.com

the event Im talking about is this one - http://www.eatyourownears.com/events.php?event=31 I'm on the mailing list and it says Dan is DJ'ing, not sure why it doesn't there...

Yeah - know Red Sparrows but not given them much time yet. Will do asap as love explosions in the sky and mogwai etc. Just saw Mogwai 2 months and EITS 4 months ago (with Four Tet in fact) - both great live.

Leilani 04-05-2006 02:19 PM

ahh, explosions in the sky! they're from my hometown!! they are soo awesome!
and mogwai - can't go wrong with those guys. i remember when they first started getting popular over 10 years ago! now look at them! they're like the poster child for indie rock!!

IndiElectronica 04-05-2006 03:25 PM

which home town? I've seen interviews/web info saying Dallas, Ft. Worth and Austin...? My parents live in Sherman fyi and I grew up in Norman, OK so know the area - tho i'm in the UK now :)

Leilani 04-06-2006 11:38 AM

i'm from austin!
how in the heck did you end up in the uk?? where are you from originally? & how was it that you were in ok?? small world isn't it? where in the uk are you living?

IndiElectronica 04-07-2006 06:11 AM

cool! Austin is one of 5 cities in the US I would even consider living in. I still think EITS are from the DFW area, but of course live down there now... I grew up in Norman (and yes, a sooner fan!), moved all over the world.. ended up in seattle and lived there 15 through to 25 (I say I'm from Seattle) and moved to Reading UK (near London) 5 years ago with work. Doesn't pay as good, but 30 days off a year and more music than I can handle is not a bad thing! Love the beer culture here too

fyi - i sent you a PM :)

Leilani 04-12-2006 01:30 PM

i'll check out my pm asap! what is your job exactly?
do you like any americana/indie stuff? like Ryan Adams or Gus Black or My Morning Jacket - etc??

Leilani 04-13-2006 02:15 PM

i just sent you a pm! any plans for the weekend? any good shows coming your way?

IndiElectronica 04-15-2006 05:19 PM

saw Senser on Thursday. It was... uh... interesting i guess. Think limp bizkit, but 10 years before so you give them a little artisitc credibility... was a very cheap local show and a few mates liked them in their yoof so tagged along. family stuff last two days but out to a good local club night tomor. A retro indie night only on bank holidays only (we have a 4 day w/end in uk).

as for american - ryan adams... not really liked much what i've heard. what's his best album? Dunno Gus and not heard of enough of morning jacket to place them.

Leilani 04-17-2006 09:36 AM

hmmm...
i just saw gris-gris play lastnight with brian glaze (formerly of brian jonestown massacre). it was amazing!! do you like psychedelic stuff?
as for ryan adams - i really like his first 3 records the best. but especiall gold and demolition. mmj's best album is their first one, 'At Dawn'. it's monumental to me. as for gus black, i really just started listening to him recently with the release of his newest album 'autumn days'. i guess you're really more into electronica than anything else, eh?

IndiElectronica 04-18-2006 03:24 AM

no - i am most definately more indie than electronica... there's a lot more indie bands out there is all....

adidasss 04-18-2006 06:40 AM

hey, you two ever heard of pm's?...die thread, die!!

Leilani 04-20-2006 02:53 PM

beat yr own KID 08-20-2006 10:43 PM

I'm glad there is some caribou love up in this forum. They're amazing.

But repated to the thread topic, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD6bI7ziGPk

watch that. It's hilarious.

jonmarshall 08-22-2006 04:38 AM

could probably become something greater

anticipation 05-27-2007 11:27 AM

Tapes 'N Tapes

Recently heard about them while watching Human Giant, they play pretty good. Anybody else like 'em? Their album, The Loon, is pretty dandy.

Mar-Vell 06-07-2007 08:32 AM

I think these guys are really good, some good songs, but the hype is undeserved.
