In terms of playing Curtis on filled in with a few guitar chords, however his sensational ear was vital to the band's songs. When they rehearsed they did so without a tape recorder so Curtis was the one listening in and telling them 'that riff you played just then was really good, play it again'. Otherwise all those pieces would have been lost.
