Good band, definitely has a widespread fanbase beyond the northwest. "Shanty for the Arethusa" and "Los Angeles I'm Yours" are two examples of very good songs.
They're in the middle of touring this month, so check out the website to see if they will be in your neck uv da woods.

I like them and I'm from Scotland, a few of my friends like them too. I wouldn't say they're well known here though, I only heard of them from an American guy, and passed the cd onto my friends. They did play in my local pub in Glasgow once but I missed it (The Delgados were playing somewhere else the same night - tough choice) it's only a small venue and didn't sell out or anything, but you know, they still made it over here. Hope they come back.

If you're a fan of Her Majesty the Decemberists you definitely won't be dissapointed --There's plenty of accordian to go around. And I missed the show they had here a couple of months ago too, which kind of kills me. Edit:: I've seen DeathCab Twice now - and even though they have hardly anything In common with the Decemberists I'm sure that'll be an amazing show. They're playing here in august with the Violent Femmes, which I'm needless to say extremely excited about.

I had to bring this thread back to express my fondness for the new album. I most certainly agree, my pick for best album this year so far. I never thought I'd say the words 'pirate' and 'folk' in the same sentence, but that's exactly how I describe Picaresque.
Good songs- Sixteen Military Wives, The Mariners Revenge Song, From My Own true Love, The Infanta. All make my list this year. |

ah! the decemberists. EFFING love the new album. saw them at fine line in minneapolis and then again in fargo, nd the next night. weird circumstances actually. minneapolis was a sold out show, and fargo was a pay-at-the-door. picaresque is amazing though. the mariner's revenge song is notable, but so is we both go down together. i was super addicted to that song for almost two weeks. sad, i know. but it's such a great song.
"meet me on my vast veranda, my sweet untouched miranda, and while the seagulls are crying, we fall but our souls are flying..." *sigh*
