Elephant 6 Collective

In my opinion, the most talented, versatile, and genuinely unique group of musicians ever. From famed outfits such as Of Montreal and NMH, to more avantgarde acts like Major Organ and OTC, these guys will--or should--go down in history as one of music's most influential groups.

Discuss. Hate. Appreciate.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-14-2007 01:16 AM

I like pretty much all of Elephant 6 acts. I've yet to hear one I didn't like.

My only problem with it is that it's a bit samey after a while , I can only listen to tweeness in small doses.

White Lies 03-14-2007 06:39 AM

My friend likes Of Montreal, I think they're pretty boring.

Neutral Milk Hotel are OK, but I don't get why they're so acclaimed.

bloodorflies 03-14-2007 12:39 PM

hey guys, new here, this was the first thread i saw really...got to say i love elephant 6, especially Nuetral and jeff mangum. the website made a bunch of live stuff available for free too...can't go wrong with that.

White Lies 03-14-2007 12:43 PM

I was listening to NMH again there. Communist Daughter is such a great song, with some very intriguing lyrics as well.

swim 03-17-2007 08:29 AM

Other projects are good but I find Elephant 6 to be especially horrible.

enemyat_thesix 03-17-2007 09:33 AM

Are you serious? Explain yourself sir!

swim 03-17-2007 09:45 AM

To me they're just really dull and cheesy.

it's all good.

pheurton 06-26-2007 03:19 AM

joyboyo53 06-26-2007 07:34 AM

Some quality stuff, some really overrated stuff, none of it is bad, but I find some of them to be bland and uninteresting. NMH is probably the top band in there, especially their early stuff, and A Hawk and a Hacksaw is pretty sweet as well.

enemyat_thesix 06-28-2007 04:41 PM

NMH has never struck a chord with me--no pun intended.

I can sort of see what you're getting at.
I like NMH , but if i'm honest I don't see them as being any better or worse than a lot of other E6 bands.

Ornette 07-04-2007 03:56 PM

Olivia Tremor Control are the best E6 band.

enemyat_thesix 07-04-2007 10:03 PM

they're definitely the most avantgarde, along with Major Organ.

Ornette 07-06-2007 04:16 PM

They basically just write Beatles-on-acid pop songs, except for the stupid noise crap which I don't even count as part of their albums. Not too avant garde, really.

who are you refering too?:bonkhead:

because if you are insuinuating (**** spelling) that the whole elephant 6 collective is made up of beatles on acid wanna-bes you are sadly mistaken. i would delve more into what a jackass comment that is, but i have a feeling i would rather use my breath to sing along to some beatles on acid pop songs.

sleepy jack 07-06-2007 08:47 PM

I think he was referring to Major Organ, or maybe Olivia Tremor Control but i'm pretty sure its the former.

Ornette 07-07-2007 10:30 AM

Yeah I'm not talking the about the whole label, just a few like-minded bands on it.

bulldawg982 08-19-2007 11:57 AM

someone needs to upload some major organ and olivia tremor control... im a big nmh fan, and ive been meaning to explore the elephant 6 collective and torrents can be so frustrating sometimes... so please help me out.

Jonovision 11-12-2007 11:28 AM

I haven't heard much oh the collective, but what i've heard, i really dig...i love NMH, and im getting into Beulah....what Of Montreal like?

Ive been hearing a lot about them

guitarherowaka 11-12-2007 11:37 AM

I like OM for their quirky take on pop songs...not many bands can be catchy while modulating through circles of keys, but they pull it off, especially on "*** Parade" and "Hissing Fauna"

*edit* wow, the "g" word was censored...

joyboyo53 11-12-2007 02:05 PM

everything is censored on these forums

Sneer 10-19-2009 11:43 AM

Its all about The Music Tapes, Julian Koster is a fking genius

NHM, Apples in Stereo, Olivia Tremor Control, Beulah and My First Keyboard are all well worth exploring blogs for too.

I HATE Of Montreal though.

I always thought Frog Eyes were E6 too, they have that distinctive sound... turns out they're not.
