Apres Moi is one of the greatest songs ever, from anyone, in the world.
IMO.

First time I heard "Fidelity", i thought it was so catchy, and unique enough that I just had to check out the album. I thought it was great. A few months later I finally got my hands on "Soviet Kitsch" (at Best Buy, nonetheless, who I always complain doesn't have the 'obscure' stuff I'm into), and was blown away.
I loved how raw and sweet it was at the same time. It's the kind of stuff she couldn't get away with on a new album because she'd probably alienate all of her VH1 and college girl fans. But for a true music lover, and someone who's not afraid to break the rules a li'l, it's definitely the better of her albums. And on more of a cultural note than anything else, I think it's fascinating that despite surely growing up for a while with a Russian accent, you can hear the New York (where she learned to speak english) accent come out in some of the songs.

I just recently started listening to Regina Spektor and I was pleasantly surprised at how different her music is from anything I have ever heard before. I normally listen to a lot of hip-hop and rock so it's a nice low-key break from the hard beats and guitar rifts so prominent in the two respective genres.

'us' and 'samson' are good songs, other than that I find her quite tiresome.
If she was to be a cake, she would be full of sugar and icing. Which actually sounds like a pretty good cake... but no, she's awful. |
