The Official Peter Laughner Thread
What does everybody think? I love him personally. He's one of the more obscure forerunners of punk rock. He was in a great great band called the Electric Eels in the early mid '70s who played this sort of garagey, noisy music in the Cleveland area. They were hated by just about everybody. He was also in a band called Rocket From the Tombs which became Pere Ubu.
He was a great songwriter. He died in the late '70s before his time because of his excessive lifestyle. Another one of the great ones snuffed out before their time.

Try and hear Take the Guitar Player For A Ride (it has loads of good solo stuff on it like "Cinderella Backstreet" and "Baudelaire") and the Electric Eels compilation Their Orgasmic Majesties Request.

This is some of his solo stuff. He was very heavily influenced by Lou Reed and thats evident in the poetic lyrics and strong melodies. The debt punk rock owes to him isnt really evident from these songs so when Ive heard that Eels comp a few more times Ill put some of that stuff here.
