Awesome, awesome, awesome. I'm loving what I've heard thus far. Lazy Comet is awesome.

Ahhh, did I mention awesome?

swim 03-01-2007 08:29 PM

Mi Kimono is the most perfect song ever.

cardboard adolescent 03-01-2007 08:32 PM

Every single song on Today's Active Lifestyles is perfect.

swim 11-15-2007 06:50 PM

A reunion with out Eddie Watkins or North Carolina Dates isn't much of reunion if you ask me >:[

cardboard adolescent 11-15-2007 06:54 PM

well ****in a goddamn it's somethin! do you know of any shows other than all tomorrow's parties?

swim 11-15-2007 07:02 PM

I am glad they're playing at all but that's all they have planned and they really haven't said whether they're going to do anything more than that. I really hope they do.

And has anyone even heard the band Cherry Valence?

GravitySlips 02-23-2008 05:31 AM

05-09 Washington, DC - Black Cat
05-10 Carrboro, NC - Cat's Cradle
05-16-18 Minehead, England - Butlins Holiday Resort (Explosions in the Sky All Tomorrow's Parties)
05-29-31 Barcelona, Spain - Primavera Sound Festival (ATP stage)

swim i notice that you're from North Carolina...you gonna go to this? I'm seriously considering going to ATP, almost exclusively to see Polvo.

I'm listening to Today's Active Lifestyles just now and it's got me in the mood.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-23-2008 03:12 PM

I've only ever heard people talk about Todays Active Lifestyles.

What's their other stuff like because I just found Exploded Drawing & Celebrate the New Dark Age.

cardboard adolescent 02-23-2008 06:17 PM

they're good too, but i don't like the vocals as much.
so, they're good albums but are more singles based
whereas i think todays active lifestyles works great as an album

I knew they had to play Cat's Cradle! Thanks, I was kind of upset about them setting up that festival date without playing NC first. I'm going to ask my brother to go ahead and by tickets because that's going to sell out. Their original drummer isn't playing with them. I don't know the story behind that but he plays in Sanford band, Dr. Powerful.

Kevorkian Logic 09-18-2009 12:11 AM

Whose heard the new album? I thought it was better than anything they have come out with in the past ten years. But i'm curious what everyone else thought.

If you don't have it PM me and i'll send you a link (if I like you enough o'course).

Piss Me Off 09-18-2009 04:17 AM

I only have Today's Active Lifestyles and Exploded Drawing but i like it more than the latter, yeah. The production really works in their favour, especially in the heavier parts where theres more of a crunch. Beggar's Bowl is a brilliant track, one of my favourites of the year. I need to get more Polvo action!

sidewinder 09-18-2009 11:28 AM

I like Today's Active Lifestyles and Celebrate the New Dark Age EP best out of their catalog. I like Exploded Drawing too but it's pretty long so it doesn't feel as solid as the others. It's technically a double LP but all fits on one CD, next time I play it I might split it up in two parts. Cor-Crane Secret is good also, but I never got into Shapes (so I never checked out the accompanying EP This Eclipse).

In Prism is a nice return to their pre-Shapes sound but considerably more laid back. I like it so far. I'm planning to see them next month.

Nowhere Man 09-19-2009 01:33 AM

I love Today's Active Lifestyles and Celebrate the New Dark Age. Polvo is such a great band, but I am rarely in the mood to listen to them. Every time I listen to them I wonder why I don't listen to them more. I have had Cor-Crane Secret and In Prism on my computer for awhile, but have yet to listen to them.

sidewinder 10-05-2009 08:47 PM

Polvo show is tomorrow! I still can't decide if I should go or not. I hate weekday shows, always so tired at work the next day.

Malicious Wakizashi 10-29-2009 04:51 PM

The new Polvo album is good but I feel it ends on a weak note.

Sneer 12-11-2009 05:36 PM

There hasnt been enough talk of In Prism on this board. I think it's excellent, it's the best album they've released since TAL, definately in my top 5 of the year.

Overall they arent the most consistent band in the world but fuck me, when they get it right they blow pretty much everything else out of the water. I cannot wait to see them on tuesday.

Hell yeah and i'm very jealous that you are seeing them. This is still my track of the year for sure, it's fecking brilliant:

sidewinder 12-11-2009 10:01 PM

I like the album. I just feel it's a little slow so I'm often reluctant to put it on. It doesn't drag, it just doesn't feel that energetic. Not that all music should be, of course.

I saw them live a month or so ago. I went alone so I wasn't feeling particularly festive, but I felt the sound wasn't that great (I feel like I'm always criticizing the sound...I'm just more a fan of recorded music I guess). The show could have been a bit more energetic. And while the crowd was decent it also felt embarrassingly small for Seattle.

swim 12-18-2009 06:41 AM

I was really disappointed with In Prisms and I didn't even have high hopes.

sidewinder 12-18-2009 10:08 AM

I could see many people finding it too different from the previous album. I think what helped me accept In Prism right away was discovering Black Taj (featuring Dave Brylawski) about a year ago. Their album Beyonder is really great, featuring a more classic rock sound but with hints of Polvo's brand of rock (though don't get me wrong, it sounds less like Polvo than In Prism, of course). I'd suggest anyone that likes In Prism check that out.

Powerful amounts of agreement, though The Pedlar has sneaked up on it! I think i like In Prism more than the new Sonic Youth album. Those who have listened to both of them probably know why i'm comparing the two, In Prism just seems like the album SY want to be making right now.

As Swim said, it is not a patch on their early release but c'mon. It's still head and shoulders above many albums this year and gives the kids a huge run for their money.

Piss Me Off 12-20-2009 06:26 PM

Sonic Youth are hardly kids now! I do agree though, it's been getting many plays from me this year, a definite highlight.

I was meaning more the guitar albums that are out this year and this track in particular is head and shoulders above many.

Jester 12-28-2009 02:34 PM

Polvo

For fans of Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr., Polvo is an indie art rock band that emphasizes on dense sonic structure. There's nothing that really makes them BETTER than their contemporaries, but they write some excellent songs and have some nice sounds.

New Polvo album rules, not their best but much better than Shapes at least.

I wasn't all that impressed with the single myself (not bad though) but the album is definitely worth a listen.

Sneer 01-04-2010 02:18 PM

It's amazing live, i saw it in a completely different light after that

Zer0 01-07-2010 02:14 PM

I downloaded their new album a couple of days ago and i must say i'm liking it A LOT :D any recommendations on which album to get next?

lucifer_sam 01-07-2010 03:44 PM

Today's Active Lifestyles is what everyone will tell you is their best.

I mentioned it earlier in the thread but anyone that likes the new Polvo should check out Black Taj - Beyonder. The band includes Dave Brylawski from Polvo on guitar (and maybe backing vocals). It's more classic rock than math rock, but I feel Polvo's latest headed in that direction too, though still retains some of their original sound of course.

But for Polvo, I'd also go with Today's Active Lifestyles next.
