Shame to hear that. In what way were they disappointing?

I'm a huge fan of their recorded output but I've never seen them live. I've always wondered how their sound would translate live...

I also want to learn what you found so disappointing. What songs did they play?

I like "Beggar's Bowl" because of the interesting rhythm pattern, quirky dissonances, the repeated odd small riffs and bended or slurred notes, and the contrast between the harsher grungy sections and the lighter bell-like moments.

However, the song didn't grab me or move me as much as my current favorite Polvo song, "Time isn't on my side" from the 1993 album "Today's Active Lifestyles," a song I prefer because I feel it has more sweetness, zip, and jangle than "Beggar's Bowl."

I've been meaning to listen to more Polvo, since the few songs I have heard make me curious about their others. What are other people's favorite Polvo songs?

Polvo - "Time isn't on my side"

EDIT: I just listened to the following song, which has a meaning that I like although the sound doesn't do as much for me as "Time isn't on my side":

Polvo - "Taste of your mind"

^'Time Isn't on My Side' is really one of the better songs on Today's Active Lifestyles. The other song is from Exploded Drawing. I think I like that album more, even though it's really long and can drag a bit because of it, but the high points are really high...

...like this song, an epic closing track "When Will You Die For The Last Time In My Dreams". It's worth sitting through the album if not just for this one (or you can always jump directly to it )

Another favorite has always been "Vibracobra" from their first album Cor-Crane Secret. It has more of the Dinosaur Jr alternative, noisy rock vibe, more so than math and is usually considered to be an album when Polvo haven't yet come on their own ground. But I really like it, especially because of that sloppiness and looseness, something that math rock tends to lack, although Polvo was never all that math compared to other more technical bands. Anyway here it is, my favorite Polvo song:

I saw them last year touring for In Prism, and was also a bit disappointed. It just didn't feel like they had much energy, or the sound guy sucked, but something was lacking. Mind you, I've personally been far more disappointed by other events in my life.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I saw them last year and I thought they were sick. Their live sound to me is so robust, whilst every note was meticulously executed to absolute accuracy. The only thing that would have made it better was a bit more material from TAL, but then they had recently released In Prism so I understood. Ash was standing about 2 metres away from me throughout the entire Modest Mouse set too, I was too scared to talk to him though haha.

I still haven't listened to Siberia. How does it compare to the rest of their catalog anyone?

I've still only listened to it once since the day it came out. I keep meaning to, but haven't. Based on that, I didn't find it as good as In Prism. But is it fair to judge after just one listen? No.
