Grizzly Bear

They aren't unique in their sound in anyway. It's simply been done before but I think the song writing is slightly different than what you might find from most people. Atleast my first listen many of the songs I didn't always correctly predict what was coming. Nice indie folk band. I like them.

This was basically my reaction to this thread. I don't get why these guys get so much hype. Pretty standard stuff.

IndiElectronica 10-26-2006 04:24 AM

I have Don't Ask, Eavesdropping (Simon Bookish Remix), Fix It and (my fav) La Duchess Anne (Safety Scissors Remix) on rotation.

good, but not great band...

adidasss 01-16-2007 09:10 AM

Any chance of an upload?

adidasss 01-16-2007 02:05 PM

Sweet, mucho love from this croatian.

Expletive Deleted 01-17-2007 05:19 PM

Girl Talk's remix of "Knife" is super good.

IndiElectronica 01-18-2007 03:32 AM

this band is starting to get a lot more publicity... which is good to see!

I'm on the label mailing list so got this before the album came out...

They are at ATP vs the Fans even and have already emailed the label asking for an interview for my site too...

Not many bands are GENUINELY "unique" in their sound. Even if it seems so, what you find if you dig deeper is that there're quite a few other act/s pretty similar but without popular recognition.

adidasss 01-19-2007 01:31 PM

Extremely boring.

The Dave 12-13-2007 01:37 PM

I just bought their ep, Friends, and I kinda agree with the statement made so far. It's nothing too original, kinda like a Seabear meets Panda Bear.... talk about bands with the word Bear in their name...

sleepy jack 12-13-2007 01:39 PM

Yellow House is a really great album. I don't understand why everyone feels they need to be unique seeing as half the stuff of everyone listens to isn't and Grizzly Bear are great at what they do.

Rainard Jalen 12-17-2007 03:51 AM

The Friends EP rocks, anyway. I haven't heard Yellow House yet, unfortunately.

Seltzer 12-17-2007 01:54 PM

I have Yellow House and I think it's a pretty good album.

obstacle3 12-19-2007 03:43 AM

I think grizzly bear thoroughly deserve their acclaim, they are a band that grows on you with each listen which is a very important quality as far as I am concerned!

roseparade 02-07-2008 08:17 PM

Grizzly Bear is a pretty fresh bunch although I don't think they compare to indie giant The National.

I'm an asshole. Just listening to Veckatimest and some of the stuff is downright gorgeous (and reminiscent of Fleet foxes, and we all dig the Foxes amirite?). Much promise it shows. :|

GB is way better than Fleet Foxes. Even that EP they released late 2007 was splendid stuff, covers and all. Love this band and hope they come up with something new soon.

Did you check out that Department Of Eagles thing last year? I missed it, but heard much positive things.

That thing I'm listening to is their latest dummy, it just leaked...;)

Can't recall, I still have them on the puter though...

adidasss 03-06-2009 07:02 PM

Ok so Veckatimest is one of the best albums of the year, yes? Yes.

Bane of your existence 03-06-2009 08:32 PM

Saw GB open up for Radiohead a couple moons back. Was very impressed. Got one album (it's peach colored, don't remember the name) but it was quickly moving up in numbers of rotations before I left my home.

adidasss 03-07-2009 10:56 AM

^ *jealous*

Here, hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?lzgvtjmywqg, listen to it before Pitchfork gives it a "best new music" nod.

simplephysics 03-10-2009 06:41 AM

I saw them when they came through with Radiohead too, I wasn't particularly impressed by their live show, but I do like Yellow House.

adidasss 03-10-2009 07:26 AM

I'm growing more and more fond of Yellow house too. Lullaby, Knife, Plans, Colorado, On a neck, on a spit, all great songs. I've also heard the Friend EP and their cover of Hole's He hit me is gorgeous.

"He Hit Me" is a song written by Brill Building's Carol King and Gerry Goffin, originally recorded by The Crystals in 1962. Here's the original:

adidasss 03-11-2009 03:43 PM

Yeah, I found that out yesterday actually...http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c.../bagonhead.gif

ixtlan22 03-11-2009 04:20 PM

He Hit Me... interesting tune.

In_Hiding 03-14-2009 08:59 PM

Their live shows have impressed me way more than their albums so far, but anytime one of their songs comes on shuffle lately i'm starting to appreciate them more.

I saw them open up for Final Fantasy before Yellow House and all the hype started, and the whole place was captivated.

Brad Stengel 03-24-2009 12:54 PM

Yellow House is pretty good, but I just heard "Cheerleader" and it blew me away. Im pumped for Veckamatist.

dac 03-24-2009 01:25 PM

I too saw them with Radiohead and thought they were awesome, but I was also high as a kite so I would have liked most anything.

What album should I check out?

adidasss 03-24-2009 02:07 PM

Yellow house, although I thought Veckatimest is more immediate...

Brad Stengel 05-21-2009 10:55 AM

Downloaded Veckatimest a couple days ago...definitely going to be one of my top 5 albums of this year.

adidasss 05-21-2009 11:46 AM

Does that mean it's officially out or are just a little late to the party?

music_phantom13 05-24-2009 11:49 AM

I'd say it's pretty much a typical indie folk band like all the others. I wouldn't say it's bad, but there are plenty of bands out there that sound pretty much the same as them. I've only heard a couple of their songs, and I really wasn't impressed enough to even bother looking for a full album by them.

adidasss 05-24-2009 12:36 PM

You've probably heard the wrong songs then...;)

I'm late, not until recently have I had access to a computer that has a file-sharing program. So in the last week Ive downloaded like 20 different things.

adidasss 05-24-2009 01:11 PM

But I posted a link over two months ago...http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...power/sigh.gif

We'll aren't WE on top of things....

And before I actually had access to file-sharing I used to try and wait until release day, but now that it's so readily available I don't care anymore.

SATISFIED?!?

Good:)
