I just got Set Yourself On Fire, its reallyreallygood. I'll upload it if anyone wants it. They have some members from broken social scene, its like indie-pop, they sound like, idontknow, i'm shit with comparisons. Its good though.

yes - very good album and worth getting for sure. Saw them live last year and was really enjoyable.

Lead (Female) singer is Amy Millan and she's put out a solo album since as well.. not as good, but worth investigating (as well of course is Broken Social - Scene)

Alo 10-02-2006 04:04 AM

Sounds good! I'd appreciate an upload!

Expletive Deleted 10-02-2006 12:06 PM

1. There are people who still haven't heard Stars?
2. Amy Millan's solo album sucked.

IndiElectronica 10-03-2006 06:01 AM

it didn't suck.. just little to it is how I'd put it...

Yes, Stars is one of my all-time favorite bands. I'm actually learning 'Tonight' (off Nightsongs), my favorite song of theirs, in Piano.

thisisdanni 12-09-2006 04:41 AM

Yea i just got it recently aswell and i'm really liking it. good good music.

Alo 12-09-2006 05:22 AM

I've been listening to them a lot lately! My favorite is probably 'You Ex-lover is Dead'. I actually knew Broken Social Scene already, but I only found out today that Millan and Cranley are members from Stars as well.

Mouseketeer 12-09-2006 06:42 AM

I love 'Elevator Love Letter' and I have a couple of other songs too. I would like to buy an album perhaps, but which is best?

MoonlitSunshine 12-09-2006 01:44 PM

In my opinion, Set Yourself on Fire is By far the best. It's a masterpiece

swim 12-17-2006 08:13 AM

I've heard so much good things about them but I find them to be painfully boring.

You find both Stars and The Format to be painfully boring :( ? Which bands aren't boring to you?

PS - I'm new so go easy on me.

swim 12-20-2006 04:42 PM

A lot, too many. Don't suppose it matters too much but if you must know- Sebadoh, Flaming Lips, Blonde Redhead, Dinosaur Jr., We are Scientists, insert a lot screamo bands that have no relavance to not liking stars here.

Mouseketeer 02-05-2007 11:43 AM

Gosh, I'm just on my second listen to 'Set Yourself On Fire' and I absolutely love it!

just for kicks 02-06-2007 01:49 AM

Alo 02-06-2007 07:18 AM

postmodernprincess 03-23-2007 10:11 PM

the stars albums nightsongs and heart are pretty decent too, the big fight and what i'm trying to say are great songs off of their most recent album

enemyat_thesix 03-23-2007 10:54 PM

indiepop, not indie-hop.

enemyat_thesix 04-05-2007 04:43 PM

I just got a leak of Do You Trust Your Friends?, which is a remix album of Set Yourself On Fire. Anyone want?

drainxthexframe 04-05-2007 05:38 PM

Only people who enjoy being tortured by awful, awful music.

Seriously, I loved Set Yourself On Fire, but the remix album is pure garbage.

enemyat_thesix 04-05-2007 08:12 PM

really? i haven't listened to it. all the bands that did the remixing are good, though... and the first track is Owen Pallett who can do no wrong...

postmodernprincess 04-05-2007 09:35 PM

I'd love a copy of that remix album!!

I thought that majority of the bands involved were average at best, and most the remixes are just lackluster and uninteresting. None of them really add anything to any of the songs, and when it comes right down to it I thought most of the songs were just plain boring. A part of me disliking this probably has to do with the fact that I really just don't enjoy some of these bands, but even artists I do like kind of fucked up here.

Junior Boys, for example, a band that I think are great, seem to have really put no effort at all into their own remix. The song they chose (or had chosen for them, I don't know), "Sleep Tonight," is really right up their alley in regards to the songs they usually make. But instead of really doing anything at all with it they just (from what it sounds like to me) phone it in by adding a boring beat and then just leaving there. Almost every song on here sort of feels like that to me, like the artists involved didn't really know what to do so they didn't really do anything.

Having said all that, I do think the Russian Futurists' cover is great. But that and maybe two or three other songs I thought were decent were all I enjoyed.

drainxthexframe 04-06-2007 01:40 AM

that one guy from stars is a gay fag like ethan

First post since joining this forum~

I first heard of the stars back in 2004 and went on to purchase the album "Set Yourself On Fire", Absolutely loved it! Stars are the reason why I really got into the whole canadian Indie scene.

there are few recommendation on canadian indies
1.Arcade Fire (I think most of you know about this band)
2.Malajube (Francophone Indie group in Montreal)
3.Wolf Parade
4.Feist

punkflop 05-09-2007 04:39 PM

hey - could you please upload that remix album - have been dying to hear it as it's got some great artists on there! Thanks in advance man.

Kevorkian Logic 05-09-2007 06:07 PM

bland, but thats what I say about a fair amount of music, so you have every right to ignore me.

Pitchfork: Stars Come Out for In Our Bedroom After the War

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEITSGOOD.

sleepy jack 07-10-2007 03:18 PM

New album leaked, i'll upload it once it finishes downloading.

Strummer521 07-12-2007 10:07 PM

I just discovered this band today. I like best when they do kinetic 90s-style alt-pop that draws its energy from its fuzzy atomospherics. like "Window Bird" and "Ageless Beauty". Then they have this penchant for overwrought chamber pop of a kind which I think we'll all a little tired of by now (after every indie fan has now inevitably gone into Sufjan Stevens overload, I think many of us have developed a real appreciation for bands that can make intriguing music with the 3 or 4 basic rock instruments.). Plus they insert a lot of electronica flourishes more out of obligation to be hip, progressive and experimental than anything else (IMO). However at the core, they've a bunch of well-crafted, melodic songs delivered in Amy Millan's honey-sweet voice which is so pleasant because of its cleanliness and freedom from unneeded nuance.

Strummer521 07-12-2007 10:08 PM

^^ That's just like the kind of posts I used to make...Strummer is back!!

PopIsDead 07-18-2007 05:10 PM

I much prefer Broken Social Scene over Stars. Stars seems too bland.

sixteenstone 07-20-2007 01:45 PM

yourself on fire was amazing and their hit ageless beauty was excellento. i dont have that or the new one now however, quite sad. could some please uploade that ****e, the new preferably prutty pelase. thanks.

sixteenstone 07-20-2007 01:47 PM

yea i prefer broken social over the stars too, bsc seems for exciting and fun especially lbi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day), so good.;)

EDGE 07-20-2007 03:00 PM

The hidden tracks and In Our Bedroom After the War is my favorite.
