How can you not love XO..it has imo some of his best work. But s/t and From a Basement are also both amazing. I guess it all comes down to just preference.

Figure 8 is the most underrated album of his career. People don't like it I guess because he tried to do too many things in one album, unlike his previous albums. But I think it hints at all he could've been as a musician, the baroque pop style of Son of Sam, the haunting sound Bye, the hints at him being more experimental with Junk Bond Trader, and the classic just elliott with his guitar Somebody I Use to Know, its a beautiful album. Plus it showed his ever growing talent as a lyricist.
Its kind of sad that that isn't considered the final Elliott Smith album. Maybe it would get more recognition if it was made more clear From a Basement on the Hill is a compilation that had nothing to do with Elliott other then the songs. |
