He was amazing. I still need to get Roman Candle and a digital copy of Either/Or and I'll have every main album.

I love his later baroque pop work, but i have to agree with Fasho here, musically this appeals to me a lot more, nobody does acoustic like Elliott

Elliott Smith was the first musician to make me cry. Thus, he is very dear to me. I love how he has that desperation/urgency seeping out of his voice when he sings. Genuis.

either/or is smith's best song. but saying that, i love most off the new moon record. riot coming is one of the best songs elliott smith wrote in his heyday.

Well, I don't know about either of those being his best IMO, but New Moon really is a great compliation, I'd rate it over Figure 8 that's for sure.

I might be in the minority, but while Elliott Smith is my favorite singer of all time, I really dislike Figure 8. This is probably attributed to the fact that I very much prefer his lo-fi work, Roman Candle is not only my favorite of his albums but one of my favorites of all time. That said, there are a couple of songs I absolutely love off of Figure 8, those being Son Of Sam, Wouldn't Mama Be Proud, and I Better Be Quiet Now.
Anyways, Elliott is one of two artists that really got me interested in music. I first heard Angeles and Needle In The Hay and ever since then I've been pretty much obsessed with his music.
