I don't know, I think its on par with self-titled. Self-titled is longer, but it has more songs that are average while Roman Candle has less songs that are and is shorter so its more consistent.

yea..they both have there strong tracks..and weak tracks.
All that matters is that XO is TEH G00DZ.

Exactly people mane it as being weak, obviously it's not as good as the latter of his work. But I still think it's quite the solid album and the rawness adds to it.

Yeah thats something I appreciate about the early albums particularly Roman Candle, you wouldn't see a later Elliott Smith sing many lines like "I wanna hurt him / I wanna give him pain". Him being a less experienced lyricist and them being lo-fi albums really were nice.

Is it true he never did heroin even until after his s/t came out?

I don't know when he did it for the first time but he only became addicted towards the end of the Figure 8 tour.

He use to only drink regularly (pre figure 8 tour), I don't remember exactly what he did, I don't think they touch on it much in the big nothing. I know he did some of pills though andduring the record of Basement he was doing over $1500 worth of heroin and cocaine per day.
